Upgrading a motherboard and CPU on a Dell. How can I avoid Windows XP not rebooting?

1) I am thinking that I need to boot into safe mode, delete all my drivers incluing the main chipset.

2) Then change swap mobo and cpu.

3) hopefully reboot and let windows install the new drivers.

I have found from experience that you can't just swap a motherboard without problems. I had a gateway that refused to boot once.Upgrading a motherboard and CPU on a Dell. How can I avoid Windows XP not rebooting? Before you shut down your existing setup, create a manual restore point and then:

a-Create a restore (repair) disk.

b- If you have a second Hard Drive with enough space available, perform a complete back up to it.

c- Shut down your system, unplug the AC cord from the Power Supply and swap the mobo and all else you need to do %26quot;EXCEPT%26quot; the Hard Drive ,if any, that you did the back-up into.

d- Power up your new hardware and set your boot sequence for :1-CDROM

2-Floppy disk

3-HD0

e-In the IDE Controller setup, set all to Auto detect.

f-Answer %26quot;NO%26quot; to the Plug%26amp;Play question.

g- Save your config.and BOOT.(Keep your fingers crossed)

h- If the system booted and occasionally asks you to reboot, as it loads the new drivers,do so each time faithfully and enjoy your new setup.

i- If it could not find the boot record, place your XP cdrom in your player and reset your machine.

j-Enter the repair section and follow the directions for repairing the MBR. Do so and again reboot. It should now succeed but if not, let us know.
