And your computer's IP address is NOT set by the ISP.

You're modem is most likely the device that is handing out the computer's IP addresses using DHCP. Because of this, the ISP has nothing to do with it. Because the DHCP lease length is quite long (day, weeks, or longer), just restarting your modem is not likely to reset your IP address.

There are 4 aspects of IP addresses that you have to consider:

1) Public address

2) Private address

3) Static address

4) Dynamic address

This ISP gives you a public IP address, not a private IP address. Your computer uses a private IP address, not a public one (except in special circumstances, and you pay extra for it).

The static IP address does not change, even if you turn your computer and modem off.

The private IP address could be either static (configured by you) or dynamic (configured by DHCP)

If your computer's address is assigned by your modem's DHCP function, the do this to change it:

1) Go to Start/Run, then type cmd and hit enter.

2) Type ipconfig /all

3) Write down the default gateway address and the dns info

4) Right click on My Network Places

5) Left click on Properties

6) Right click on the proper local area connection icon

7) left click on Properties

8) Scroll down the list and double click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

9) Click the radio buttons to %26quot;use the following IP address%26quot; and do the same with the dns section below it.

10) Enter the first 3 octets the same as your default gateway, but make the fourth octet anything between 2 and 254.

11) Enter 255.255.255.0 as the subnet mask

12) Enter the default gateway and dns addresses

Apply and OK yourself back to the desktop

Run ipconfig /all again and you'll see that your IP address has changed to the one you just configured. It will stay this way until you configure it again. It will never change.

If you are actually wanting to change your public IP address, then:

1) If it is static, call the ISP

2) If it is dynamic, run ipconfig /all and look at the lease period. Then disconnect your computer from the Internet until the lease period runs out. The lease period is set by the ISP's server and you can't change it.How do i change my ip from my computer? You need to turn off your modem and turn it back on.How do i change my ip from my computer?Your IP address does not come from your CPU. It comes from your internet provider. You can go to start, run, and type cmd. When the command prompt appears, type ipconfig /release. Then type ipconfig /renew. Do this until it gives you another IP address.
