Overclocking my pc?

right, i have had a go at this but need expert advice. my specs: ASUS AN8 SLI SE m/b

ddr 400 ram

4200 cpu ( socket 939)

arctic pro 64 cooler

thermaltake eclipse case

8800 gts 640 mb

160 W/D hd

600w silverstone strider psu.

basically i want my pc to run games as fast as poss! i had the cpu running at 2.8ghz just by upping the fsb, but the ram auto went down to 266mhz and would blue screen if i changed it. is is better to have a faster cpu or faster ram? ive set my pci bus to lock at 33mhz but how do i stop the ram speed changing? currently at cpu: 2300mhz and ram now 420. i assume i need to keep the ram at 400mhz (its only cheap rubbish btw) but it always goes up when i increase the fsb. anyone with a similar system who has given it the beans, let me know the best course of action!

cheersOverclocking my pc?Overclocking the CPU through BIOS will give you some performance gains for gaming, and a 4200 should o/clock up to 2.6, although with only a 64 pro I would not venture beyond 2.4

More important for game performance though is your graphics card. Your 8800GTS is good enough to run most games at high settings anyway, so any performance gain might only be noticeable in artificial test rigs such as 3DMark. If you do want more, o/clock your GFX card first, using RivaTuner. As always, overclock in small increments, and test thoroughly. When you find your max. throttle back a little from this to give the component some performance headroom.Overclocking my pc?cpu more important

i have a 3600 x2

also with ddr2 6400 ram (800 mhz)

the 3600 stock speed is 2.6ghz

the ram was at 750 mhz

when i played a video game, the speed drastically improved

anyways, when you overclock, the fsb increases both cpu and ramOverclocking my pc?You need to alter the HyperTransport bus multiplier as it'll only go up to 1000MHz, or 200MHz x 5. I have my AMD 4200+ (200MHz x 11 = 2.2GHz) running at 2.5GHz (227MHz x 11) but I had to alter the HyperTransport bus to a 4x multiplier.Overclocking my pc?Why dont you just buy a new PC?Overclocking my pc?CRYSIS QUESTION FROM EARLIER -

Phenom x4 940 cpu ??????????????

Hi friends

i have amd x2 6000+(3.01ghz stock) and am2+ mobo m3a78 em

im planning to upgrade my cpu to phenom 940.....

but my doubt is will it give a better performance ....because now my x2 runs with same ghz......3.01

will a quad core with enhanced cache will rise my system performance?anyone made a change like me in ur cpu???how many fps will increase in major games like crysis???warhead etc..???

pls help me friends....Phenom x4 940 cpu ??????????????the 940 will kick butt at just about anything you throw at it. its about 21/2 times faster then your current CPU .. plus you can OC it with ease. your graphics card will be the limiting factor in FPS in those games.Phenom x4 940 cpu ??????????????It will improve performance, but it's not worth the cost for current games. The smart thing to do would be to wait for it to come down in price and for newer game engines to come out.

Does CPU speeds up computer more or Ram or both? by howmuch each?

Hey Fellaws, I'm wondering how does CPU and Ram individually affect speed of a computer? I recently added more Ram to my PC and it's faster in opening/closing programs and multi-tasking. What I wanna know is if I add 1 GB more of Ram would speed up my PC more or if I somehow magically change my 3.4 GHz CPU to 4.4 GHz? (not worrying about how it's not possible and motherboard compatibility and all)

Thank You's ;)Does CPU speeds up computer more or Ram or both? by howmuch each?Double the CPU speed will give your about 1.5x the speed, the same with RAMDoes CPU speeds up computer more or Ram or both? by howmuch each?1into2into 3into4 they all work together the more ram you have the better Program will run having a dedicated graphics card alleviates strain on your cpu/hard drive which makes things work faster as well as ram but remember 32 bit like xp you really get no use but 3.5 gig of ram for say like 4 and above you need 64 bit like vista or windows 7Does CPU speeds up computer more or Ram or both? by howmuch each?ram has nothing to do with it

Computer cpu swap. 2.3 to 2.8 ghz. do I have to update bios?

I have a compaq presario 2500 laptop. came with 2.3 ghz. processor and 512 mb of ram. I came across a dell laptop parts donor. it had 2.8 ghz processor and 1gb of ram. swapped the parts. ram first. works great. then decided to go ahead and try the cpu swap. fits perfect. the computer still works but is slower. in my computer properties it recognizes the 2.8 ghz processor but think it is running at 908 mhz. the number below the processor. I have been told that I need to update the bios if so how. I have also read about changing the voltage to the cpu in the bios. but what would I change it to and how much is to much?Computer cpu swap. 2.3 to 2.8 ghz. do I have to update bios?I would put your orginal cpu back in. Running the replacement at 908mhz indicates the chip has suffered deterioration. Althought the 2.8ghz is bigger in number it sounds like your cpu didn't have any deterioration.

How to make the CPU auto switch on when the UPS is turned on??

I have a PC, I want it to switch it on itself as soon as I switch on the UPS, i guess some hardware changes have to be made inside the CPU(I mean wires should be placed on particular)slots.

Can anyone please help me with it,

I will be greatfull to uHow to make the CPU auto switch on when the UPS is turned on??Hi. An ATX style motherboard can be powered up by jumping two pins on the main power cable. The wires are green and black and are number 4 and 3, I think. I personally would not do this because you will experience some pretty wild swings in voltage until everything settles down in the UPS. http://www.virtual-hideout.net/guides/at If you decide to try this anyway, just get a crimp connector and crimp it on the two wires. Or you could run wires to a SPST switch to make it so this function can be defeated.

Before you go about to warn be about the dangers of OverClocking, its totally ok because this is a trash model i found in the dumpster for experimenting.

The Mobo is a Biostar with a 1.7ghz intel cpu. It only gots 128mb ram. Im placing one of my own heatsinks and fans on it to keep it cool. The Bios is Very Overclock friendly, it allows me to tweak the cpu and ram each in two ways. now im gonna list what the bios stated.

    *For the CPU

CPUClock Ratio [10x] (with the option to change to from 10min to 24max

Spead Spectrum [+/-0.25%] (dunno what this is for)

CPU Clock [100mhz] (gives me option to change from 100min to 132max

    *Now the Ram

    Current FSB Frequency 100mhz

    Current DRAM Frequency 133mhz

DRAM Clock [By SPD] (gives me the option to change from 100mhz to 133mhz]

DRAM Timing [By SPD] (gives me the option to change saying manuel)

DRAM Burst Len [4] (gives me the option to change from 4 to 8

CPU read DRAM mode [medium] (gives me the option to change from slow, medium, fast.

How do I get my different screensavers to change?

Is there a way to get all of my different screen savers to work and change at different times? I'm (obviously) not that cpu literate. Any help is appreciated!!!How do I get my different screensavers to change?Easy, Jon. Go to start, control panel, display, click the tab that says screensavers, choose when you want the screensavers to begin (e.g. in 10 minutes), the amount of time you want each screensaver displayed (e.g. 10 seconds), whether you want transitional effects, and the speed at which you want those effects to take place (slow, medium or fast), and you're on your way. webshots.com offers wonderful photos of animals, scenery, rainbows, sunsets, tropical pictures, sea life, almost anything you can imagine. You register for free with them at webshots.com and, if you like, they'll send you their sampler of webshots for the week. If you like a photo, doubleclick on it, and it will download in seconds. You can go back even several years through their archives, and pull together a great collection that you create yourself. It's free, it's fun, and you can even do a search for (e.g. waterfalls) and webshots.com will bring up all the waterfall photos they have. I have everything from the Taj Mahal at sunset to paintings by Monet. Enjoy yourself and have fun with it. You can do it, Jon; I know you can! Best of luck. How do I get my different screensavers to change? You can select only one screensaver at a time. To switch to another screensaver, you will have to change it manually. How do I get my different screensavers to change?right click your mouse and go to properties, then it'll say change your screensaver. 1) Do overclocking in very small increments.

    2) Everytime you increase it, run a load test on the system to make sure it's stable

    3) Repeat

When it gets to the point of the system hanging or acting strangely, dial it back a couple of notches in the bios.

You might want to think about increasing the cooling on it before you start playing around with it. From what I can remember about those old CPU's is that they don't have very substantial cooling. If you've got some old fans lying around, you can always Frankenstein something together. I remember I had one I oc'ed back in the day that I cut a hole in the side of the case and ducted 6 case fans onto the CPU to take away the heat. I got a good 20% performance boost out of the computer that way.

  • What is the system crystal on the main board?

What is the system crystal that sets the system bus clock and CPU clock?

If you up the system crystal on the motherboard? Like the clock cycles?

I really confused about the bus speed , CPU speed ? And what the system crystal does?

How can you change the bus speed or CPU speed to get higher GHz?What is the system crystal on the main board? The crystal is a piece of quartz mounted in a small metal can the size of a bug. It does a curious thing... it vibrates electrically at a speed proportional to it's size. The tiny tiny electrical signal is amplified by an integrated circuit (IC), which uses it as the basis to generate a whole set of computer level voltages, each one going on and off at different speeds. The IC chip is usually designed to use a crystal of a specific speed, and in this way it can accurately (or as accurately as the tolerance of the crystal) generate the clock signals used by a computer.

This is also why some watches are more expensive than others, good watches use a crystal with a tighter tolerance, which is more expensive to produce.

You really don't want to change this crystal on your computer board unless you really, really know what you are doing (like you built the board from a kit). The chip which generates the clock signals can be changed programmatically to generate different speeds, so the crystal itself doesn't change... the way the crystal's base frequency is multiplied changes.

The multiplier is usually set automatically by the BIOS when the computer starts, but you can 'overclock' your system by forcing this multiplier higher. I strongly recommend you don't do this... instead of getting a faster computer, you'll burn out the slow one you won't have anymore when you have to buy a faster one anyway. If your CPU could take the extra speed, they would have already sold it with that rating. What is the system crystal on the main board?I guess you are talking about the clock, a microchip that controls the timing and the speed of all the computer's functions. that chip includes a crystal which vibrates at a certain frequency when electricity is applied to it.

The Front Side Bus (FSB) is the connection between the CPU and system memory.

The Front Side Bus operates at a speed which is a percentage of the CPU clock speed.

The faster the speed at which the Front Side Bus allows data transfer, the better the performance of the CPU.

CPU speed is measure in megahertz. A 1MHz CPU can accomplish one million CPU cycles in one second.

Does this mean that a 2MHz CPU is twice as fast as a 1Mhz CPU?

Not necessarily. This depends on how much work each CPU accomplishes in each clock cycle.

The 1MHz CPU might very well be faster, in practice, than the 2Mhz CPU - if it is more efficient or can process more tasks in each CPU cycle.

The purpose of a cache is to enable the CPU to access recently used information very quickly.

Cache: A cache will significantly affect CPU performance.

Some caches are bigger than others. A typical L1 cache is 256Kb and a typical L2 cache is 1MB.

Generally speaking, the larger the cache, the better the system performance boost.

RAM has an access speed. Faster RAM will mean the CPU has to wait less often for data. This will, effectively, make the CPU faster.

To overclock you can make changes in the Bios.

Each of these topics is a study in itself, Read your manual or try Googling your motherboard for detailed information.

I have a 2.40 ghz cpu chip how much can i sell it for?

It is a intel 2.40/128/400 sl6vu cpu chip out of a dell dem 2400. I was going to put it in my hp 750c that has a 1.8ghz cpu but with a faster cpu u have to change jumpers so it will work right plus i dont even know what my hp has in it. If there is a easy way to explain how to put it in the hp that would be nice if someone could help. But i dont think it can be done. So I will sell it. That is my ? how much could i sell it for a good price to get rid of it cause it is just going to sit in the static wrap i have for it and never be used.I have a 2.40 ghz cpu chip how much can i sell it for?first of all.... that CPU chip of yours is a celeron (and they are soooo crap)... if your 1.8 CPU is a Pentium, then it is better than you 2.4 Celeron

also, i did a search on your computer model (and dell computers are pretty bad, no one into computers really wants them, like me, i will never ever buy a dell in my life)

its also a basic computer, it only has 512mb RAM (running at only 333MHz), and a poor 80gb hard drive..... i would sell the whole thing to someone for $100..... and also it doesnt have a graphics processing card in it, so itll run apps like crapI have a 2.40 ghz cpu chip how much can i sell it for?Ask twenty or best offer, and be happy to take ten dollars if nobody offers more. Really, there's not much demand for an old Netburst-architecture Celeron chip.

I am looking to buy a new Asus any advice??

I am thinking of buying an Asus Striker or Maximus motherboard. But I'm not sure which one to go for. These motherboards are both around the same price. I only have DDR2 the Maximus supports DDR2 and DDR3. This is the only difference that I can see.

How easy is it to get these up and running and be able to overclock with ease? I am new to this kind of thing. Would I have to buy other things to overclock too?

    Would I have to change my DDR2 RAM Memory? It's a 2GB

(1 x 2) Ballistix 667. 240 pins. The Striker works with 800 but I'm not sure how many pins this has.

There will be no changes to the CPU as this will work with the new motherboard.

Thank you to all you good people who answer these questions.I am looking to buy a new Asus any advice??If the price of the two are around the same, I will go for the Maximus because it is a newer model and it comes packed with lots of overclocking features.

    One day when I was about to use my computer, i turned on the power switch and suddenly there were very strange sound coming the CPU, it goes %26quot;teeet...teeeet%26quot;

By the way, when i change to another CPU of mine with a similar monitor and wiring, the sound also exist, but i am quite sure the computer with another monior and wiring won't give out the sound.

Then after a few attempts i am able to turn it on again, but in the middle of startup when my msn is just about to come out, the computer went off.

Not long later, my computer doesn't work completely, no matter how many times i try.

But after a few weeks of not using my computer but my laptop, i am able to turn it on again, two days from the day, which is today, it isn't working again. Any idea why and how to solve it?

The computer probably is on, but my monitor shows its going to sleep. Problem with VGA?

What the hell is wrong with my husbands pc?

My husbands computer was running fine when He turned it off yesterday. Today I turned it on and it won't do anything. Took about 6 hours for all my antivirus, Spyware, malware, And registry programs to run and get rid of problems. But it is still slow. My assorted programs are Speed Up My PC, Registry Booster, Spyware Blaster, Spybot, Spy Eraser, AVG, And CCleaner. Ran ALL of them, Found a bunch of problems but no performance change. Constant 100% CPU usage. I go into processes and stop something that is hogging the usage, And another program starts using it all. I would have to stop all the processes to free the CPU. What do I do. My husband took a hammer to 2 other pc's He had that acted up, And I want this one to be around for awhile. To give You an idea how slow it is, It took Me 20 minutes to write this because of the typing being so slow. The pc specs are 2.66 gig P-4 processor, 2 gigs DDR ram, 256 Meg video card, Dvd player, And some sound card. I am the pc person of the house in case You couldn't tell. =) Anyway what do I do?What the hell is wrong with my husbands pc?Reset your husbands pc and while the pc is starting up PRESS F8 and now you should be able to start via Safe Mode. Make sure that the pc is not connected to the internet. Try running all your anti-malware programs while in safe mode (they perform better and faster while in Safe Mode). Remove all malware found. Then restart the pc again. Going to Last Known Good Configuration must only be tried where after doing all anti-malware methods fail.

Or the problem maybe little or no disk space left so you might try freeing more space. (Disk Clean-up).

What the hell is wrong with my husbands pc?restore to a earlier time, also tell your hubby to stop looking at porn! What the hell is wrong with my husbands pc?have you tried restoring the computer to the date that everything was working properly, sound like a virus or spyware problem, you might have to reinstall your operating system again which is time consumingWhat the hell is wrong with my husbands pc?Boot into Safe Mode (F8). Click Start-Run-and type msconfig in the box. When program opens click the Startup tab. Uncheck all of the programs you listed above except AVG. Then restart regular. If it is still slow download a trial of Spyware Doctor from http://www.pctools.com and run it. It will scan and list all of the spyware, malware, etc. on your computer. It won't delete them but at that point you have to but the software. It is well worth it! It sounds like you have an infected PC. Doing a system restore is fine but the problem may return. A friend of mine had a pc that ran slow and Spyware Doctor found over 600 infections. After it removed them his PC ran fine.

Computer start up after installing new PSU Need IT advice.?

Long story how it happened , anyway electricity was being shut off for about 10 mins. I told my landlord to wait til I could shut down my computer. I have an HP Emachine 6400. He cut the power as Vista was shutting down. After the power was back up, I could not turn on my computer nothing it was dead. I changed out the Power Supply, I changed out the CPU fan. However I turn it on, it starts now, but does its POST%26gt; an error comes up about a hardware change , or Vista wasnt shut down properly. I go to recovery to fix. Computer shuts down. I try to get in to the bios. Computer will not stay on longer then 1 min at the most. I can get to almost loading Vista , it shuts down.

I pulled out the battery and , bios is reset there should not be any admin problems.

    All the fans are running.

I can not keep this computer running Any IT out there that can shed light? Computer start up after installing new PSU Need IT advice.?it sounds like you have troubleshooted this problem quite well..

this problem sounds like a cpu heat problem... after the cpu reaches a certain temperature, the computer shuts itself down for precautionary reasons. things you can do -

from a cold start, open up the bios menu and quickly try to find a hardware temperature gauge. after finding this, (should be in advance bios options, or something like that) see what your cpu temperature is at. 45deg is fine, around 50-60 is a bit high, and around 70-90 is dangerously high. so basically, if your cpu is reaching anywhere from 70-90 it will shut down the computer.

the first thing you can try doing, is to see if the cpu fan is properly locked above the cpu.

the thing that you should be worried about is the cpu fan...ive had this problem before and all i had to do is readjust the fan. if this doesn't work then you might look at buying yourself some heat paste.

    good luck

What might be wrong with my cpu?

I know there are probably tons of these but I feel each one is probably a bit unique since not everyone has the same parts.

I put this computer together myself about three years ago and didnt have any issues. Recently I was dealing with blue screens and I started to notice my cpu was getting hotter then usual (about 35c+). The original paste was pretty much covered in dust and dried up so I bought some new (Connectland Silver Cool Thermal Compound Silver Cool 1.5g). I removed the old and put on the new as directed and I'm running the computer...though nothing seems to have changed. I checked the cpu fan as well and it is running. When I run IMVU it jumps up to a little over 50c and will start to lag if it goes any higher but like before if I try and run any games it usually has three different outcomes depending which one I try. It will either spaze out on the graphics causing everything to be distorted, lock up and cause the music to skip, or freeze the computer entirely. Is there something more I am missing?

Here is the info I got off of dxdiag:

My tower has 3 fans and a lot of ventilation space and as far as I know it's not over-clocked because I have no clue how to do that yet. Also I do live in a dusty area, but I try and use an air can to keep it out of the tower as much as possible. What might be wrong with my cpu?55C at full load is fine for an E4400. There was no reason to replace the thermal compound -- thermal compound only needs to flow when it's first attached. Once it's in place, it can dry out with no affect on cooling.

I'm not sure what's causing your issues. Does it only happen in games or does your CPU fail stress tests? Maybe your graphics card is going. What might be wrong with my cpu?50c is pretty hot. You may want to make sure that heatsink/fan are securely locked in place.

It may be a software issue, like malware or a virus. I'd run a full anti virus scan, and an Adaware scan. Also check your hard disk, run chkdsk /r from the command prompt for each hard drive.

Why can't i transfer my game to my new pc?any computer whiz here?

i had nfs5 and i feel its the best car game i've ever played.that was in my previous cpu.theni changed it and thought i could play the game by transferring it through a pen drive.but when i open the game after that an error window appears saying-

    Error:terminate execution?

You have DirectC 0.Please install DirectX 7.

    Could not load ''./drivers/dx7z''[FILE=/real/patch3/pc/… LINE=273

    Yes No

If i click yes ,it goes away.if i click no,it says-3d graphics hardware could not be initialized.

What the heck is this?i installed direct x 10 but it keeps saying i have directx 0.my computer repairer had no clue how to fix it and gave me nfs2 hot pursuit.but the game stinks.how do i play nfs5?why the **** won't it work?

    do you have any suggestions?

please don't tell me to download it from somewhere.the speed is so low here it'll take a day to downaload a game. Why can't i transfer my game to my new pc?any computer whiz here?1.u probably didnt copy all the data files of the game ,may be some were left out or were sht cuts and in other drives.

2.now that being said , u cant retrive it cuz ur harddisk is formatted.

3.now u want to play that game even more cuz u lost it.right?

4.but try to find the cd from where u got the game in the first place.cuz thats the only and i mean only way u can play.(as u said u dont want to get into the torrent download thing).

it happened to me:i lost halo 1.after 1 yr of playing.

:( its really frusturating. but u hv to download it if u dont hv the cd .Why can't i transfer my game to my new pc?any computer whiz here?It is not possible to copy a game or any program from one Windows computer to another computer. It will not work. The game needs to be re-installed.

You also might not have a graphics card that can handle the game in the other computer. Why can't i transfer my game to my new pc?any computer whiz here? You can't transfer a program, it has to be installed on the new computer the same way it was installed on the old one - either from the CD or the installation program, or however you did it on the first one. Evidently you're missing some file or registry entry the game uses to interface with DirectX 10 graphics.

Sorry, there's no way to copy it from one computer to another - the installation doesn't just put files on the computer, it also adds things to the registry and adds some files to places other than the folder the game is in. Not too nice for us, but that's how Windows works. Why can't i transfer my game to my new pc?any computer whiz here? The only way you can install it properly, is to download it from the orginal site.

    %26quot;SORRY%26quot;

%26quot;Good Luck%26quot; CharlieWhy can't i transfer my game to my new pc?any computer whiz here?Edit: Just noticed you said pen drive, you'll need to install it from the DVD / CDs, copying it to a pen drive destroys its architecture to core windows files.

What graphics card do you have? Its all a Direct X issue (if your computer repairer could work that out he's a moron), try downloading the file from the link below; then do the following:

    Double click on My Computer.

Double click on your Hard Drive (usualy labled C:/)

Look for a folder called WINDOWS

(it may say %26quot;These files are hidden blah blah blah%26quot; click the link just below this text to show the files)

There's a lot of folders in here, look for and open a folder called System32.

Now cut and paste (or drag) the file you just downloaded (d3dx9_34.dll) to this folder.

Try NFS5 again. Why can't i transfer my game to my new pc?any computer whiz here?If your other computer is the same as the current, or if it's got winXP, then why don't you just take the hard disk from the old and put it in the new? Or copy the old HDD (Hard disk drive) and insert it in the new one.

But some games CAN actually be copy pasted from one place to another and still work. Try this:

Open the Game directory and find run.exe

Double click on it and the game should open, cuz run.exe adds the registry key's to Win registry. Why can't i transfer my game to my new pc?any computer whiz here?Id just say install it again, And it is possible to play a copied game =P WoW does haha =D I can just run it off my portable hard drive onto any computer.

    How to fix my computer???

my computer has been acting up randomly shutting down and saying the CPU was changed or something like that and says to check the cables. it wont startup now. the light comes on on the tower but it doesnt even make the startup sound now. its like its dead. any help or ideas are very much appreciated. i have a lot of important things on my computer. this happened so randomly. How to fix my computer???I had the EXACT same problem.

It's the power supply. Trust me. This is caused by inconsistent power flow to the CPU, which causes the system to think the CPU is operating at a different frequency (megahertz or gigahertz) than it should be. Most CPUs can be Over or Underclocked by TELLING your motherboard to run current through the CPU at a higher or lower frequency.

    Get a replacement power supply.

    That should fix the problem.

I have fixed probably 500+ computers. I've only seen this problem twice. The first time I fixed it BEFORE the system reached the point of not working at all, the second time it was with my own computer and I knew the problem, I just didn't have the money to replace the power supply till after it had fried out entirely. How to fix my computer???Open the case or have it opened and reseat all the cables and connectors and the expansion cards...

from what you have there its looks like either the CPU fell off or the battery on the MB is dead...How to fix my computer???You need to take it to some computer place to have it repaired. There is something actually wrong with it, and unless you have means to test things out, you won't know what the problem is. most likly some wire is just gone out (or shorted out). But I doubt you have the means or the knowhow to do it. Take it some place.

    or get a new one.

My pc powers on before my ups.?

I have an APC ups which normally takes about half a minute to come on and only then do I power on the pc.

I had my cpu fan changed yesterday and while the service people were checking it out they did something in cmos and since then every time I switch on the ups the pc powers on simultaneously. Can someone please let me know how to rectify this? Thanks. My pc powers on before my ups.?OK. You need to change the BIOS settings. When your computer initially Powers ON the BIOS ROM configures your harware in order for your PC to operate.

To go into the BIOS you need to RESTART your PC. When the PC powers on you would need to press either DEL or F2 or similar key. Read the screen carefully to see wich key is assigned for BIOS changes. The BIOS key appears only for a few seconds so you may need to restart your PC more than once until you get the BIOS access.

    Now...

GO into the POWER configuration page.

There there must be a POWER ON option that configures whether your computer will automatically turn itself on in case of a power failure. Disable this option and you should be fine.

Do NOT change anything else on the BIOS settings, then save the configuration.

    How to upgrade my computer?

can someone please tell me how do i run 64BIT windows instead of 32BIT.What do i have to change in my cpu to do that. How to upgrade my computer? In order for you to run Windows 64-bit you need to have a 64-bits processor. To find out if your processor is 64-bits capable, download and run this tool:

    http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

Look under %26quot;Instructions%26quot;. If you see %26quot;x86-64%26quot; than your processor is 64-bits capable and you can install windows 64-bit.

If you don't see that there, it means that your processor is not 64-bits capable and, in order to run a 64-bits Windows, you would need to upgrade your processor. But first you need to find out if your motherboard is capable of running a compatible 64-bits processor. Try contacting the manufacturer of your PC / Motherboard and inquire about possible upgradeability to a 64-bits processor.

If your motherboard can't handle it, you will need to upgrade both your motherboard and your processor.

I wouldn't advise you to upgrade to a 64-bits operating system unless you plan on using 4GB of RAM or more.

How do I re-enter CPU settings?

On booting my Windows XP I get a warning that CPU has been changed. If I press F1 it just carries on as normal, but the date has been knocked back to January 2002. These are the main details on the first message:

Main Processor: Intel(R)Pentium 4CPU. CMOS Checksum error - defaults loaded. Warning! CPU has been changed. Please re-enter CPU settings in the CMOS setup and remember to save before quit. Press F1 to continue. Del to enter setup. I have tried the Del but the computer does not seem to respond. What has caused this? Also, for quite some time I have been getting warnings that my computer is seriously low on virtual memory, although when check the C drive for space, there is lots of space left. Could there be a connection between the virtual memory and the CPU warning? Can anyone give me step by step instructions how to re-enter the CPU? And what exactly do I have to re-enter?How do I re-enter CPU settings?Just to add to what has already been said, if your BIOS settings have changed without any intervention it may be worth changing the CMOS battery at the same time, as if that is dead then even changing the BIOS back to where it should be it will not save the settings when the PC is switched off %26amp; it'll happen everytime the PC gets switched on :(

HTHHow do I re-enter CPU settings? You have to enter bios to setup your cpu. Entering bios would be hitting del on startup. Virtual memory is adjusted as needed generally, but if you are continually running out of it there is definitely something wrong, or your computer is pretty old.

You may want to have a professional look at it, because making the wrong changes to your CPU can make your computer very unstable at best, or totally destroy the CPU at worst.

How to get audio on CPU?

I just installed a new video card on my CPU that has a HDMI output and a VGA output. Before i installed this card my standard CPU audio and video were working. It seems like my CPU audio was shut off when i installed my new video card. I went into my CPU BIOs and changed the audio setting from auto to enabled and that did not work. Virus or Malfunctioning CPU?

I have a laptop and I don't know why it isn't working fast anymore. I was convinced I had a virus so I restored to factory settings and wiped C drive clean. When I check My Computer --%26gt; properties, the CPU is always changing even when the computer is idle. I tried adjusting the power properties to various settings (always on, power management off) but nothing helps. The My Computer properties will read 3.2 and two seconds later 1.37 while i'm doing nothing. Is it possible a hidden process or virus is using up my cpu or is my computer malfunctioning. The fan has always been loud but it seems it has gotten slightly louder. My computer used to be lightning fast and now it won't do what I want. What could be wrong?

I'm not really sure how Windows works with laptops. When I reinstall back to factory settings is it restoring windows using files from a partition drive? Could someone have accessed the files located on the partition and permanently corrupted them with a virus or program?Virus or Malfunctioning CPU?The CPU is always going to be changing no matter what you do to it.

The computer usually has work to do, whether you are actively operating it or not, especially if it's online. There is nothing to adjust.

If you're having problems with your system slowing down, you should do what all good users do and run your Disk Cleanup and Defragmenter.

Forget about viruses and hidden processes in this case. Constant tweaking on the part of paranoid users causes most computer problems I've encountered.

There will never be a time when your CPU is, as you call it, idle.

Forget about it.Virus or Malfunctioning CPU?try cleaning you fan on the laptop. a computer is more than just

the keys and what you see.Virus or Malfunctioning CPU?Open up Task Manager (Ctrl Alt Del) (or right click on the task bar) and there you can see all the processes running then in the performance tab you can see the CPU and Memory Graph.

That may help you find what is wrong.

Another thing to try is to turn off all programs from starting except the Operating System.

Start %26gt; Run %26gt; Type Msconfig and go to the start up tab and untic everything and click ok and reboot.Virus or Malfunctioning CPU?I will assume you ran a virus scan and did a check for spyware.

You say you wiped the C drive clean but you also said you restored it.

If you are using Internet Explorer or Firefox chances are you have a bug.

Have you run your Task Manager to see if you have too many programs running or maybe a program running that shouldn't be there.

After all this, you may simply be better off re-installing Vista but be sure you actually RE-FORMAT the drive, you will loose everything but it will also get rid of any bugs and in the end save you a lot of aggrivation and time.

A last ditch effort regarding your fan, have you taken some compressed air and backblown the fan area, sometimes a clod of dust could be the culprit and this could break it loose or you may also have a bearing gone bad in your fan, you really need to open it up to be sure all is clean and well in the laptop itself too.

How do I make my CPU (hp pavilion 8988) work faster. Which parts do I need to change?

To make your system run faster, yes increase your memory to the maximum. Next, backup your important files and then reformat your hard drive and reinstall your operating system. Just reinstall the O/S and only those programs you really want. You will be surprised how this will speed up your system. After that, defrag your hard drive. Ok, don't forget to install the Microsoft Updates and Adobe Flash %26amp; Shockwave player.

You could also upgrade your hard drive to run running at 7200rpm.

Lets face it... it's really time to replace that computer. If it's running PC133 ram, man, that's old. Obviously, you're not a gamer and that's ok. Be careful not to install newer programs that want you to be running faster processors. Stay away from programs like Adobe PDF Reader, use Foxit Reader... don't go near Symantec (Norton) 360 or their other antivirus programs, use something like AVG Free antivirus and SuperAntispyware which is free also. Symantec programs are build for faster systems and can Really Slow your computer down.

Is your computer slower than ever? Does it feel like your computer just can't open up programs? In this how to, it will teach you ways to make your computer faster.

The one way you can really boost your PC performance is by buying more ram to install in your computer. If you can go to a store and ask them to install more ram, that will help the computer run faster than before.

    Step2

Scan your computer for viruses and spyware. Make sure and get rid of any nasty viruses or spyware that are located in your computer.

    Step3

Get rid of unnecessary start up programs. The start up programs will load on your PC automatically and slow down your system. Click run and type in msconfig. Click on startup items and uncheck any useless start up programs.

Or use the tool to manage your startup:

    Step4

Run disk de-fragment and disk clean up. Both programs will be found in your accessory folder and both clean up the system.

    Step5

    Clean your Registry

It also says your motherboard has 3 memory sockets, so what you want to do is buy 3 sticks of 512K PC133 SDRAM. That will max out your memory.

There are many places to buy RAM, including ebay, tigerdirect.com, and newegg.com to name only a very few. PC133 is actually quite inexpensive, if I remember correctly. Here's an example of the kind of search you should try:

My computer resolution auto-modifies, sims 3 quits, problems with world of warcraft?

Okay, so I'm a big gamer, but I have some problems:

    1. every time I play World of Warcraft, Sims 3, Swat 4 or ANY other PC game, and then I quit the game my CPU resolution changes from 1152*864 on 1024*768. Then, if I try to change it back, I have to restart the computer! :((

    2. every time I play sims 3, when I try to enter in Sunset Village (or whatever), it crashes (or idk what it does), but there's no error [It still changes my resolution]

    3. every time I play WoW, after some time some big *things* appear on everything, and I cant see clear in my face, + that *things* start changing and making bigger (idk how to explain)

So CAN EVERYONE HELP ME?!?!?! :((My computer resolution auto-modifies, sims 3 quits, problems with world of warcraft?Sounds like a video card issue.

Update your drivers and see if the same deal happens again.

Also check, has the fan stopped working? If it has, then your video card might be overheating.

In this case, you may need a new video card.My computer resolution auto-modifies, sims 3 quits, problems with world of warcraft? You need to set your monitor at whatever it's native resolution is. You also need to either set all of your games to play at the same resolution as your monitor's native resolution or smaller. You can do this by going into the visual options areas in games. In windows you would right click somewhere on the desktop and select properties then move to the settings tab and choose your monitor's resolution. In Vista or 7 you would go to display properties.

How can I limit the way a process uses the CPU?

Here's the problem. I have this game that always uses left over CPU power when it's running. The CPU is always at 100% when the game is open. And when the CPU is at 100%, the fans in my computer start spinning faster, and therefore it gets noisier, which is annoying. The thing is, I know that the game definitely doesn't need all this processor power.

So is there a way to limit the way a process uses the CPU? Such as making the process use a maximum of 50% of the CPU. I already know about changing the priority of a process, but that doesn't fix the 100% CPU usage. How can I limit the way a process uses the CPU?You can try using windows task manager to limit the game.

When the game is on, go to task manager, under the process tab, right click on the game, set priority%26gt; to anything you want.

if you use dual cores, you can set affinity, limiting the game to 1 processor only.

How do i change my ip from my computer?

i was playing a game called %26quot;tibia%26quot; until i gto ip banned well it wasnt really me it was my brother and i anna know how to reset the ip or change it form my cpuHow do i change my ip from my computer?Turning your modem off and on again will probably not reset your computer's IP address. And your computer's IP address is NOT set by the ISP.

You're modem is most likely the device that is handing out the computer's IP addresses using DHCP. Because of this, the ISP has nothing to do with it. Because the DHCP lease length is quite long (day, weeks, or longer), just restarting your modem is not likely to reset your IP address.

There are 4 aspects of IP addresses that you have to consider:

    1) Public address

    2) Private address

    3) Static address

    4) Dynamic address

This ISP gives you a public IP address, not a private IP address. Your computer uses a private IP address, not a public one (except in special circumstances, and you pay extra for it).

The static IP address does not change, even if you turn your computer and modem off.

The private IP address could be either static (configured by you) or dynamic (configured by DHCP)

If your computer's address is assigned by your modem's DHCP function, the do this to change it:

    1) Go to Start/Run, then type cmd and hit enter.

    2) Type ipconfig /all

    3) Write down the default gateway address and the dns info

    4) Right click on My Network Places

    5) Left click on Properties

    6) Right click on the proper local area connection icon

    7) left click on Properties

    8) Scroll down the list and double click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

    9) Click the radio buttons to %26quot;use the following IP address%26quot; and do the same with the dns section below it.

    10) Enter the first 3 octets the same as your default gateway, but make the fourth octet anything between 2 and 254.

    11) Enter 255.255.255.0 as the subnet mask

    12) Enter the default gateway and dns addresses

Apply and OK yourself back to the desktop

Run ipconfig /all again and you'll see that your IP address has changed to the one you just configured. It will stay this way until you configure it again. It will never change.

If you are actually wanting to change your public IP address, then:

    1) If it is static, call the ISP

    2) If it is dynamic, run ipconfig /all and look at the lease period. Then disconnect your computer from the Internet until the lease period runs out. The lease period is set by the ISP's server and you can't change it.How do i change my ip from my computer? You need to turn off your modem and turn it back on.How do i change my ip from my computer?Your IP address does not come from your CPU. It comes from your internet provider. You can go to start, run, and type cmd. When the command prompt appears, type ipconfig /release. Then type ipconfig /renew. On this screen, look down at the bottom.

At the bottom is the-%26gt;Navigation Guide. Probably will have printed,

%26quot;F6 to enter Default values%26quot; Whatever it 'SAYS',-%26gt; to use DEFAULT, is the key on the keyboard that you press. Default, means the settings that came from the factory. Then you have to press the F10 key on your keyboard, to save these changes. THEN, you have to press the y key, for YES. (Looks like a capitol Y, but it's a lowercase y. The capitol Y is used for clarity.)

It may have a YES and a NO shown on the screen. You have to use the Side Arrow key to highlight YES. You could make a mistake here, and highlight the wrong one. The YES may look like it's highlighted, but it may not be. Just press the y key, and everything's cool!

    Now press the Enter key.

If something happens that this doesn't work, email me. (Click on my Chickster avatar, and Email Chickster.) Give me the computer name and model number.

CPU multiplier won't change on one core?

Okay i had a 3rd party heatsink break off the mobo(don't worry the mobo was okay). so i took out the cpu, cleaned it off and new thermal paste and put on the stock heatsink. This is a custom built pc. The temps went from 33C to 46C idle. also the processor was only running at 2.0ghz.

My processor is an Intel E8400 core 2 duo 3.0ghz and the motherboard is an ASUS P5N-D.

I went into the bios and made sure intel speedstep was off. flashed the bios to the newest version. and changed the multipier from 6 to 9. well, it changed the multiplier on the first core but not the second...IDK what to do. is my processor broken, it is still under warranty. How do I fix the multiplier problem...oh and i could run dragon age origins on max before (no lagg). now it laggs all the time even out of combat. Help please.CPU multiplier won't change on one core?i thought cpu's were multiplier locked since early pentium days?

you might want to reset your bios settings, and see what happens with the cpu after that.

How to fix an Xbox 360?

Our xbox had something wrong with it, so my friend opened it up and found out that the CPU was dirty. We cleaned it and then tried to overheat it to reset it. It wouldn't overheat, after hours. We wrapped it and the cord in blankets. It wouldn't overheat, so it wouldn't reset. We looked it up and found out that is because its a slightly newer model than the original, and the CPU was changed so it wouldn't overheat as easily. So basically its fixed, but we need to reset it, and we don't want to send it in just for that. Any ideas? How to fix an Xbox 360?I actually know something easier. this happened to my son and he found this toll free number and it really helped him. Fried CPU How to diagnose?

How can you diagnose a fried CPU?

two pc's both home builds One just stopped working a while ago. It powers on but no display. This happened on a hot day I left it on all day when I came home the monitor would not come on

Yesterday my other PC's display stopped working. It still boots up but will sporadically either restart or the display shuts off. I have tested the graphic cards in both machines They still work fine, the monitor as well. I did get a error on POST which said Ratio change was incorrect. The cpu is not over-clocked %26amp; is set to fail-safe. For cooling there is three additional fans installed and the CPU has never reached over 50 C that I know of. Which is why I am so confused BUT is was pretty hot yesterday

Is this f***er fried too?Fried CPU How to diagnose?sounds to me you have more then one problem. sounds like your ram and your graphic card is not being set approprietlly and i dont think it is because your settings in the bios. i think it is your motherboard is dieing. I would try to reflash the bios with a different version see if that fixes it . If not also check to see if the power supply is getting and overage of voltages and is shutting off because of it. i think it is the motherboard. so give the bios a flash because it sounds like it is not configuring any of components right at all. and that may be the cause of your components allready being fried or going to get fried by every restart of the computer. good luckFried CPU How to diagnose? The easiest way to test a CPU, is take yours out and set it in a know working MOBO that has the same socket type. On boot up as you test, go straight to the BIOS settings, if nothing comes on it's died but if it the BIOS displays your problem will be elswhere, could be 1 of many things.

You gave a lot of information but not the BIOS level. According to the Abit site, you should have at least BIOS level 1.1 installed on your motherboard. Also, you should install the chipset drivers from the CD that came with your M/B. If you don't have the CD, you can download the drivers from the Abit site.

If your system is working despite the identification quirk, you should feel blessed. It is caused by the BIOS, not by anything you did or didn't do.

My cpu mulitplier keeps changing from 6 to 9.5?

i just built a new comp and i tried overclocking for the first time im using CPU-Z and my mulitiplier keeps switching from 9.5 to 6. I have an e7200... why is it doing this and how do i get it to just stay at 9.5?My cpu mulitplier keeps changing from 6 to 9.5?Yep ditto what mysticman44 above me says, I have a 2.8 ghz that drops the multiplier to bring the cpu down to 1 ghz when nothings being done

Jumps right back up as needed thoughMy cpu mulitplier keeps changing from 6 to 9.5?What is going on is that a 9.5 setting is way too high! Your BIOS safeguards are dropping it back to 6, probably because if it doesn't you are likely to burn the mp up. You need to tweek the computer by tiny increments, not just max it out and think you can get away with it. The mix of components will determine the stability of the computer tweak. So you may have to settle for less, like a setting of 6.5, 7.0 or 7.5 rather than 9.5. When the BIOS stops kicking you back to 6, you will have your maximum tweak setting.

But do this one small step at a time. YOu have overtweaked and the computer ain't likin' what ya did to it.My cpu mulitplier keeps changing from 6 to 9.5?Dont know what Jims talking about. The stock multiplier for an E7200 is 9.5. Try going to your motherboards cpu support page and see what bios you need to run that cpu. Thats a recently released cpu. I build and sell computers and sometimes, even thou I buy a brand new board and cpu to go with it, althou the board supports the cpu the board was made before the cpu came out and the bios on the board is outdated and needs to be flashed to run the cpu. Could be youre bumping the FSB up way too high and the boards dialing the multplier down to make up for it. Experienced overclockers are getting 3.8 out of that cpu(9.5X400) but dont expect that if youre an overclocking newbie running a stock fan/heatsink and low end ram. Note that cpu-z will sometimes not show the right stuff until you put a load on the cpu. Make sure you have EIST disabled in the bios if you have that option. My cpu mulitplier keeps changing from 6 to 9.5?Very very simple answer, and has zero to do with overclocking. Intel puts a feature called SpeedStep on their chips to reduce power consumption, it lowers the speed of the chip when it can to save power, usually when the processor is not being taxed heavily. It does so by changind the clock multiplier. This feature can be disabled in the BIOS, find it and disable it, problem solved. And to be clear, I 100% absolutelty guarantee this is what is happening.

I JUST INSTALLED A NEW CPU BUT MOBO DOESN'T DETECT IT! WHAT SHOULD I DO?

I was given a computer not long ago that only has about 330mb of ram and 800mhz (AMD Turion 64). I want to upgrade my computer but don't have the money (being a minor), but there are a couple of old computers I have lying around that are broken that have ram that is better than mine and a Celeron processor. How hard would it be to go and pull those out and switch them with my computer? (Oh and I know that the ram chips have to be compatible with my comp)

btw, its a Compaq Presario v2000How hard is it to change RAM and CPUs on a Notebook? It's not going to happen.

The RAM on a laptop is designed for the laptop's motherboard and a different size/shape/formfactor than the RAM used in other laptops but let's say some of the other systems are compatible--there is a chance that the RAM will work but given the age of the system, it might already be maxed out. Got to Crucial.com and see.

As for the processor, you can't upgrade a laptop--not easily. While a tech might be able to get the CPU out and replace it, once you do, there is a good chance that the operating system won't boot. How hard is it to change RAM and CPUs on a Notebook?I've never changed a laptop processor, but on my laptop all you do is pop off the bottom and the RAM is right there. You could use a cheaper mobo than what you have listed. The following will work with your CPU.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as (~$78 with shipping has a $10 rebate as well.

Unless you use dial-up then you don't need a modem.

If you can't source a keyboard and mouse Microsoft has good quality keyboard/mouse combos at a good price.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asMy first build; are these components okay and might I be able to make it for less?Looks good. I would definitely not buy Vista though. Get Windows 7 64 bit, runs much smoother. I've had both

If you look around on Newegg, you can probably find 4 GB of RAM for less. You can also pick up a 9500 GT which is a bit better for the same price

You don't need a modem really as those are for dial up. Might want to buy a cheap wireless card though

Does overclocking change the temp of your cpu?

I have a e8400 cpu and ran OCCT for an hour and got some data back, min temp: 36, max: 56. degrees cel

But before I overclocked the cpu temp was 36 and 37 degrees celcius at 3.0GHz.

After it was overclocked at 3.7GHz the temp remained the same.

    Isn't temp supposed to change?

And this is prob obvious but how do I know if it is stable? If all the results come back and theres no error, right?

Thanks guysDoes overclocking change the temp of your cpu? When you overclock your system you are taking some risks. You have the possibility of frying your CPU if you do not have ample cooling. To get a true feel for how your system handles overclocking you should download, install and run prime95:

    http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft/

Prime 95 stresses your system out to get each core running at 100% usage.

You should also download and run coretemp to see what your temperatures are at.

    http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

Run prime95 for a few hours and check to see if your temps get out of hand or if your system shuts down. If you system has problems while running prime 95 you should look into a better CPU fan or add some additional case fans to your system.Does overclocking change the temp of your cpu?It depends on how much you over-clocked it and the cooling system, if you have a good cooling system, the temperature may remain the same.Does overclocking change the temp of your cpu?u did'nt need help uve already done it. And the answer is yes. If it work harder then it must create more heat. Pure Physics and Chem.Does overclocking change the temp of your cpu? That is correct

Computer Problem Part 4 - Almost worked!?

Ok, so here's where I have left off from.

I had a computer problem only a few days ago, and I (well, the Yahoo! Community did...) solved the problem by changing the PSU. I had a 450W in, but I replaced it with a 250W and Kapow! it fires into life!

I managed to reformat the HDD I had in (80GB) and after installation, put in a 200GB HDD as a slave. It worked fine, and I started installing all my old programs and stuff, chuffed that I have my old desktop back working.

I turn it off at 2am, and once I got back from work at 12.15pm the following day, I pushed the power button and nothing happened. I couldn't believe it!

I thought that the PSU had blown, so I went and replaced it with a 230W PSU... but nothing has happened. I know its not the PSU because there is a green light that glows when power is getting to it, and come on, it was working yesterday! And I know its not the actual power switch, because I thought it was that yesterday, but I changed it and it never solved the problem, so when I changed the PSU and put the old one back in, it turned on. Its a new Graphics card (less powerful, but now the graphics actually work...) that's in it, a new P4 2.4Ghz CPU, new Abit BE7 motherboard, a formatted HDD and a now formatted slave HDD. This is the 3rd PSU I have put in it, but as you can tell I don't think there was anything wrong with the old PSU... I just can't put my finger on what has went wrong, as nobody has touched this presumably fine working PC.

Please note that I have scrapped the 450W as it was the problem before. I still have the 250W and I currently have the 230W installed. I have tried turning it off and disconnecting from the power source for a while.

    UPDATE

I have taken the advice from part 2 of this problem that the Yahoo! Community have given me, and instead of going down in power, I have went up to 400W power supply, as I went on a website and it says that my computer needs 271W of power. I borrowed a 400W PSU and threw it in. Result? Still doesn't work.

I went and changed the CPU from a Pentium 4 2.4GHz processor to an Intel Celeron 2.4GHz processor thinking that possibly the processor has fried... which I doubt because it was working fine one night, 10 hours later when off it doesn't!!!

Does anyone know whats went wrong here? I don't think its PSU problems, I dont think there's Processor problems. Im getting really frustrated and just want this god damn thing to work! Someone once suggested that maybe my power surge has blown it up, which got me thinking, because when I got a power cut a few times, the comp stopped working ,and what I used to do was disconnect the power for 20 mins and reconnect, and it would work. But the thing is, there was no power cut. I know this because I would have had to reset my alarm which I hate doing, and I never had to.

The person who gives me the correct answer that sorts it gets a thumbs up and 10 points.

    Thank you!

    %26gt;%26gt; UPDATE %26gt;%26gt;

I have rebuilt this computer 3 times today in the hope that it would work. I have changed the Processor to an Intel Celeron (one I seen working) thinking it was the processor, and was starting to get frustrated and started looking at new motherboards on eBay to help solve this problem. I then started looking at the pins that operate the power switches and went on the manual to look and see if they were on the right way. According to a guide on-line, the coloured one indicates a positive, and the black/white one is a negative. Anyway, I clicked a few pages ahead on the Adobe manual and seen how to clear the CMOS, and I thought %26quot;hey, the comps not coming on, but I'll check anyway%26quot; and low and behold, I think I have found the problem!

The original jumper that was located there was missing. the CMOS wasn't being activated! So I ran to my friends house and basically tore their spare AMD computer and took a jumper from it. I went home and fitted it onto the CMOS and the %26quot;vvVVV...%26quot; of the fans kick in, the LED's light up... I thought %26quot;oh YES!!!%26quot; and then %26quot;VVVvv...%26quot; shut down. I try again and the same happens. I get about one second of activation and then it dies. But at least I knew it wasn't a power issue! My guess is I must have knocked it out when I put in the new graphics card.

Does anyone know what I should do to get it running... say... a good few years? Does anyone know if a CMOS jumper is different from a HDD jumper? I wouldn't imagine it was, but if it is, then I don't know what to do. Or is it the new Processor I put in that's causing the shut down?

Anyone with the correct answer and allows this machine to run gets 10 points!Computer Problem Part 4 - Almost worked!?sigh....

im guessing it's one of your software thats screwing the computer up...

    try reusing the 450 psu

    and this time

put ur comp and stand -by or hibernate if it survives

    ------------------------------

unless you actually wiped the HD again and used the same parts as it came from your %26quot;original build%26quot;(if you cant use the original build try finding differnt parts)

    ------------------------------

it COULD be your MotherBoardComputer Problem Part 4 - Almost worked!?I have seen this happen when (believe it or not) the CMOS battery dies. Only certain machines WON'T POST without a battery (or a dead one) but it DOES happen.

The jumper does not differentiate between HDD and Motherboard jumpers, they are all the same. The new proc COULD be a culprit as well, if the procs are bad, fans may power up, lights may light, but it won't post. Try swapping the CPU out, but check that CMOS battery first.
