If you have composite, s-video or component in, you can hook it right to a cable box or VCR/DVD. If not, you might be able to get a converter to go from your cable box and change the signal to an RGB(D-sub) or DVI signal. Check Radio Shack, they have all kinds of doodads for that kinda thing. It sounds to me that you are not.

Is your computer located in a work situation where there are many computer terminals and only a certain amount of available connections?

It is possible that the administrator has set out a prudent rule that any terminal which is on standby for a few minutes will be cut off from the internet and/or local area network..

At home where you are the only user and you are paying for 24-7 connection, you can stay on line as long as you wish. Again, are you the only user? administrator?

Anyway. All you will need to do is remove the data and power cables from the cd drive.

Then unscrew the cd drive from both sides.

Push the cd drive out of the case and place a new one in.

screw in the screws on both sides. (must be both unless you want an wobbly cd drive)

Replace the power and data cables, if drive is using IDE connection set the master/slave settings.

If so when windows is booted up go ahead and install the drivers for it.How do you change the CD-Rom drive in my Dell desktop computer?depends on the model it will either be held by 4 small screws accessable when you remove the sides from your case,or it will by held by 2 slides that pull out after you press to release them, model would be nice i could then give you better instructions

How does a Pentium-M CPU of a given gHz compare to a single core of a Core2Duo of the same gHz rating?

It would be nice to see some benchmarks. I'm looking to upgrade, but if I use primarily single-threaded apps, I want to know what kind of performance change I can expect. Thanks! How does a Pentium-M CPU of a given gHz compare to a single core of a Core2Duo of the same gHz rating? If you use applications that do not take advantage of the parallelization in dual-core CPU's, they will run at about the speed of a single core. You will experience a slight boost since some of the background processes will be offloaded unto the other core, but it would be perhaps ~10% faster.

As an overall benchmark, comparing dual core CPU's to single core CPU's with the same clockspeed, the dual core CPU runs about 40% faster.

    I have a P4(2 CPU's) processor

But I don't know how a program would know which Hyper threading is working? • How do you change the difficulty level on Wii Sports, tennis?

I have a Wii and the Wii Sports that comes with it. I've gotten good at tennis, and whenever I play it is SO easy to win. Like, the CPU doesn't even try. I don't have a memory card, so whenever I play, it says my skill level is 0 and my opponents is 67 or something. You would think then that they would be better than me, or at least difficult. Please help, this makes it incredibly unfun. How do you change the difficulty level on Wii Sports, tennis?First of all, The Wii has internal storage to save your game.

For Wii Sports, you need to use a Mii (from the Mii channel) to use as a save profile.

Once you start using a Mii on your Wii to play Wii Sports, you'll be able to keep track of your skill level %26amp; the game will start balancing out the game to better fit your skill level.

You'll have to play against some weaker players %26amp; win in order to get more difficult players. The more you win, the higher the skill level of your opponents (up to the maximum of 2000 skill) %26amp; the faster your skill level increases.

Until you start using your own Mii with Wii sports, you won't be able to increase the difficulty of the game.

Hope that helps! How do you change the difficulty level on Wii Sports, tennis? You do not need a memory card for the Wii Sports game as it saves relative game information directly on the system.

First off, make sure you are playing as a 'defined character' or Mii and not simply logged in as 'guest'. The only way to raise your skill level in Tennis is to continue playing against the computer npc's.

Playing against another person (2 player verses) will not increase your skill level, however playing with another person (2 player coop on the same team verses the computer) will allow both players to advance their levels. How do you change the difficulty level on Wii Sports, tennis?Difficulty isn't something you can choose in wii sports, it is dependent upon how well you play the better you play the tougher the opponents you will face, it can take time if you have just recently started playing, but keep at it and your opponents will get tougher. How do you change the difficulty level on Wii Sports, tennis?you don't need a memory card to play wii sports you are probably playing with a different mii or something is wrong with the game. How is my cpu bottlenecking my 4670?

i was told if you turn the res down and get the same fps then its yout cpu holding you back so i tried and sure enough they didnt change. I have a phenom 9500 2.2 overclocked to 2.5. How is that a bottleneck? How is my cpu bottlenecking my 4670?Your graphics card would be bottlenecking your system, or your RAM. The 9500 Phenom is slow for a quad core, but is still a very capable CPU. If your overclock is stable, then it should be running even faster.

The 4670 isn't that great for high end gaming though, so if you're trying to run recent games maxed out, the 4670 probably won't give you enough juice to pull it off.

I'm running an AMD Athlon 5000+ with 4GB of RAM and a GTX 260 and my CPU is bottlenecking my computer, but that's because it's an old dual core.

I can't see your CPU bottlenecking performance, the RAM or graphics card are more likely culprits. How is my cpu bottlenecking my 4670?AMD processors are slow. Right now Intel processors DOMINATE AMD. Your Phenom 9500 is about the same speed as a midrange Intel Core 2 Duo (that's an Intel DUAL core that's as fast as your AMD QUAD core). How is my cpu bottlenecking my 4670?crank that quad up to 3.0-3.2ghz.......bottleneck should be gone....amd quads are slow compared to intel....your quad at 2.5 isn't keeping up with the vid card....even though that card is not really high end....you can oc your ram to, but it really does not give a huge performance boost.....so you need more performance out of the quad........scott

  • How to make my inside case (system) temperatarue cooler ?

i just bough new CPU fan so my CPU temp is perfect now.but

i still have pro with my system temp.any one know what to do ?

i have 3 diff fan.in my case 1 (8*8) in back flow the air out. 2 is (12*12) again flow the air out in my case door and last one is (8*8) in my case door that flow in because that's in front of my CPU that make change for air.my power have 1 fan out like all and one inside of case.now what should i do ?i still haveVeryy hot temp coming out of my system and my system temp is near 65c sometimes

what should i do ? idon'tt have any room for usingwater coolingg any pic any websites about this any experience ?How to make my inside case (system) temperatarue cooler ?Do you have a standard sized case or a small (mini, Micro or Slimline) case.

In the small cases airflow is interrupted by the cabling and you can often just tidy this up and move it away from either the fans or the exhaust vents.

In a standard size case you need to consider the through flow of air. You already have 3 external fans, so it must be the through flow that is the problem. You say that fan 3 is in front of the CPU and the flow is inward, turn it around and draw the air out.

The fan closest to the CPU should always draw air out. Why? because the CPU fan is drawing cooler air in through the bottom of the heatsink and pumping it out hotter into the case from the CPU fan, you need to take this hot air and draw it straight out of the case not blow it in.

Try to get the air to circulate, cool air in at the bottom, hot air out at the top. Remember that your PSU also generates a lot of heat and does have its own fan, this will also draw the heat out at the back of the PC so include this as one of the extraction fans when trying to set up the circulation effect. How to make my inside case (system) temperatarue cooler ?Make sure fan air flow it going the right way though the case.

front case fans blow air in,rear extracts air, plus (your cpu fan)have you got large enough heat spreader %26amp; fan.the ideal for air flow is 1/3 more in than out. How to make my inside case (system) temperatarue cooler ?Sounds like you have sufficent airflow in regards to fans. Along with having clean fans to provide airflow you also need to make sure the heatsink is clean. I clean mine every 3 or 4 months considering my PC is on all the time. It's easy and takes 5 minutes to do. Get a can of air from a local retailer. Turn the PC off and release the heatsink clips. In some case it might be screwed in. Once it is out take it outside and blow it clean with the can of air. You should be able to see through it. On the bottom of the heatsink you will find some heat resistant paste. Do not wipe this off and if there is not much on there then pick some up at any electronics retailer. When you have the heatsink all cleaned then just pop it back in and see if your temp drops.

If the heatsink cleaning doesn't cool it down then you need to find the source of the heat. For instance, some hard drives run very hot. Seagate's seem to be pron to creating heat. Especially the Barracuda's. In that case you might consider adding a second hard drive which doesn't run so hot. Samsung and Western Digital are good brands.

Overclockng 790i ultra on q9450 cpu?

    Motherboard: EVGA 790i ultra

    CPU: Q9450

    RAM: 2 x 2gb Corsair DDR3

this is the first time i have tried overclocking with a computer, and from watching a utube video of a guy showing how to overclock this same motherboard on the same cpu(same ram too). so i tried to give it a shot.

now all he basicaly did was change the

fbs - memory clock mode to 'linked'

fbs - memory ratio to 'sync mode'

fbs (qdr), MHz from [1333] to [1800]

this gave him about 3.6 GHz

he showed all the other features as well but i'm not sure about playing with them unless i have to.

so anyway i went into the bios and did that and then saved and exited.

apart from making a rather sad sound my computer wouldn't load.

when i restarted it, it said 'warning' it was in safe mode and that i should check the memory or cpu fsb.

so i just changed it back to defualt an now it work just fine.

so what did i do wrong and what do i need to do to get it right??

3.6 GHz is about as fast as i could ever need so i'm aming for that.Overclockng 790i ultra on q9450 cpu?Lol... ah welll.. youtube, they joys...

Well for starters visit custompc.co.uk and look on the overclocking section of the forums for an actual guide.

Secondly, all CPU;s are different, yours may not overclock as much as someone else's and likewise. Yours may not be able to reach 3.6GHz at all. (Infact beaing in mind the CPU is a 2.66 and you want 3.6. Thats a 1GHz increase that is around 30%. So you probably wont manage it.

Overclocking is something of an art to say the least.. however you shouldnt just jump up your speed by 0.94GHz instantly.. espcially witha C2Q. You should raise it up in 5-10MHz increments. So 2.66 to 2.71. Then check it runs, and go for more if you're happy.

Also what he probably didnt mention is that you would, most likely, need to increase the voltage to get stable at that. Also the CPU will run hot. (so you better have a VERY GOOD 3rd party CPU, if its stock then give in now...)

Post this on the forums at custom pc. Ill help more there (and so will others :p)Overclockng 790i ultra on q9450 cpu?The reason overclocking is even possible is because the companies that make the chips set the clock speed to the lowest common denominator for all of them, so they don't have to check them all. You might have just been unlucky and not have much room for overclocking on you CPU or FSB. You can try some smaller increments first, and get some degree of overclocking.

  • How can I lower the CPU usage of my computer?

My computer is always %26quot;hanging%26quot; up on something. I'm pretty sure it has to do with my CPU being maxed out quite often. I'm running Windows XP Home Edition, McAfee Total Protection 2007, and whatever application I'm working on, and it will get hung up all the time. In the task manager the System Idle Process always has an extremely high percentage of CPU usage. And there is so many McAfee processes going all the time. I have a satellite dish I get my internet from, which is supposed to be high-speed, yet it's slower than dial-up at times. Can anyone tell me how to change this? How can I lower the CPU usage of my computer?Using registry cleaner can fix your pc and then make your pc faster,Why?the reason is that there are some regsitry errors in your PC and then make your CPU usage higher to cause %26quot;Computer slow%26quot;.

Everytime you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the pc registry. You need to scan and clean your PC with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Regisry Cleaner will improve your PC and Internet performance dramatically. It even can speed up your PC by 300% or more!

There are some comparisons and reviews of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

    http://www.registry-Cleaners.info

You can download and scan your PC for free. How can I lower the CPU usage of my computer?System Idle actually means that percentage of the CPU is not being used. A better way to look at CPU usage visually is to look at the graph on the Performance tab. If CPU usage appears to not be maxed out there, then the problem could be with your system memory being used up. Typically this happens when there are a lot of little programs lurking in the background taking up memory. In more serious cases it could be spyware or even a misbehaved program that isn't letting go of memory it should.

I recommend scanning the computer for viruses and spyware to make sure there isn't anything running in the background that you didn't authorize. Then go to the Control Panel (typically Start -%26gt; Settings -%26gt; Control Panel) and use the Add / Remove Programs applet to remove any software that you aren't using anymore.

If all that doesn't make any big improvement you may be at a point where it would be easier to use any backup software you may have running to restore the computer to when it was behaving. Of if you don't use backup software, it may be time to reinstall the operating system AFTER backing up any personal files like pictures, emails, bookmarks, word and excel documents... etc. It's a pain but computers are a lot like cars and if they don't get regular maintenance they get sluggish and eventually crash. Unlike cars, reinstalling the operating sytem often gives you back that %26quot;new car%26quot; performance. But I do hope it isn't necessary. Good luck. How can I lower the CPU usage of my computer?check your task manager (ctrl + alt + del) and see what tasks are running -- chances are, you might have many programs running in the background.

You could download TweakNow Powerpack XP or some tool for managing your processes.

But if you really want to improve performance, just upgrade your memory. How can I lower the CPU usage of my computer?Firstly go into msconfig by going to run and typing the word and then click on. There will be a section called Startup. Look at the programs that have a tick next to them and decide if you really need or want them to run at startup. If not uncheck them and click apply and then close. You'll be prompted to restart your computer. Of course make sure not to uncheck anything vital like security programs.

The next thing I would suggest is getting rid of the Mcafee program as it's a major resource hog. Look around at different places and ask questions about products to get an idea of how much of a resource hog they are and then perhaps get a product that uses less resources. If you don't want to pay for another suite you could use some great freeware products that do a decent job and use less memory.

How do I respond to your answers without reentering a question?

thanks.I installed a new pent 4 CPU 2.8 ghz. Clock speed is set to 2.10. How do I change?Previous answerer is on to it, let me clarify a little. The bus speed on your new CPU is supposed to be 133Mhz with a 21 multiplier, yielding 2.8 Ghz. But your motherboard is old and only supports a 100 Mhz bus, which multiplied by 21 is 2.1 Ghz. A BIOS update might work, if not, you will need a new motherboard, or frankly just a new computer, Dell has some for as low as $300. As for responding, for me just click on my name which should take you to my profile and you can e-mail me from there.I installed a new pent 4 CPU 2.8 ghz. Clock speed is set to 2.10. If it says 82850 you have the old board, If it says 83850E you have the new model.

If so, How do I change it? Please Help...Can I change my Processor on a Laptop? You can, but you have to make sure it's compatable with the motherboard of your laptop.

If you want to make it faster, i recommend buying RAM. If youre maxed out with that, and you insist on a new chip, i would tell you to buy one of the exact same kind, only buy one with as much L2 Cache memory as you can.

L2 Cache memory is memory on the chip itself. This is about a thousand times faster than RAM.Can I change my Processor on a Laptop? You can upgrade your processor if its the same socket type. But i wouldn't reccomend it cause the HEAT-SINK would have to be remodified to handle the heat of the laptop%26gt; you might get more crashes and the laptop can overheat if not done properly.

You can play games with the processor you got.Can I change my Processor on a Laptop?Laptops are very expensive and very hard to upgrade. You would probably spend more money upgrading an old laptop then what it would cost to buy a new. You would come out better buying a new laptop.

It had a 633 mhz cpu in it new it has benn upgraded once to 933 mhz.

I recently started school and need at least 1.3 gb do I dare go that far without changing anything else. I have a socket 370 cpu if that helps anyMy questio is how far can i safely upgrade my cpu in a compaq 5000 series computer Lappies are notoriously hard to upgrade. Check the manufacturer's website - you should be able to find a pdf of the owner's manual which, among other things, will tell you the max processor clock speed.

I'd keep in mind that if it's an old lappie, any spare chips are likely to have come from older systems - you'll be getting a system-pull that's probably okay, but has some mileage of its own.

Consider getting more RAM - that might be cheaper.

    1. %26quot;I bought a new CPU fan and thermal grease, applied to it, and installed the fan safely%26quot; - Why did you replace your fan? Was it because of overheating problems or just for kicks? If it was because of overheating problems, damage to your motherboard may have already been done.

    2. %26quot;Plus my motherboard has some yellow lights glowing somewhere near the CPU :/ %26quot; - This indicates that the motherboard is getting some power, but possibly not enough to run everything. You may have a bad power supply.Computer won't work, why not? please help?Boot the Motherboard with everything off it and then shut it down and try with everything on. I'd refer to your manual to see what the yellow light means. I'd say all you need to do is reset the jumpers on the board and it should boot.

So should I buy sims3? Help me..... I am a sims addict and i want the new sims game!!!!!!!!!!!!Will sims3 work on my laptop?Yes, it'll play alright. You'll have to lower the graphical settings of course since Intel 4500HD graphics are lower end though, and not made for anything graphic intensive

Btw, the 50 GB you mentioned in not memory, that is hard drive space (storage). Your memory is 4 GB, which is adequate for anything these daysWill sims3 work on my laptop? You will defiantly can play it if you have 2gb ram min and over 50gb free space it will work fine and if you have 2.0ghz it's pretty fast so yeah you will be able to.

Hope it helps. Will sims3 work on my laptop?Well you shouldnt really play pc games on a laptop as they are not designed to play games on. It would depend on your laptops hard drive on how much memory does Sims 3 requires but by the looks of it you have no problem there. You could play it on your laptop but just after playing it delete the cookies it gives out in your files as that is what makes the laptop glitch up :)Will sims3 work on my laptop?i think it would work ... but for games like this your'e best with a PC (computer, not a laptop)

but laptops are the things these days. its up to you, i would stick with the laptop but it would work better on pc so its up to you, you could be a millionair or somethink so you could have what ever you want....

    ....hope this helps!

basically i want my pc to run games as fast as poss! i had the cpu running at 2.8ghz just by upping the fsb, but the ram auto went down to 266mhz and would blue screen if i changed it. is is better to have a faster cpu or faster ram? ive set my pci bus to lock at 33mhz but how do i stop the ram speed changing? currently at cpu: 2300mhz and ram now 420. i assume i need to keep the ram at 400mhz (its only cheap rubbish btw) but it always goes up when i increase the fsb. anyone with a similar system who has given it the beans, let me know the best course of action!

cheersOverclocking my pc?Overclocking the CPU through BIOS will give you some performance gains for gaming, and a 4200 should o/clock up to 2.6, although with only a 64 pro I would not venture beyond 2.4

More important for game performance though is your graphics card. Your 8800GTS is good enough to run most games at high settings anyway, so any performance gain might only be noticeable in artificial test rigs such as 3DMark. If you do want more, o/clock your GFX card first, using RivaTuner. As always, overclock in small increments, and test thoroughly. When you find your max. throttle back a little from this to give the component some performance headroom.Overclocking my pc?cpu more important

    i have a 3600 x2

    also with ddr2 6400 ram (800 mhz)

the 3600 stock speed is 2.6ghz

the ram was at 750 mhz

when i played a video game, the speed drastically improved

anyways, when you overclock, the fsb increases both cpu and ramOverclocking my pc?You need to alter the HyperTransport bus multiplier as it'll only go up to 1000MHz, or 200MHz x 5. I have my AMD 4200+ (200MHz x 11 = 2.2GHz) running at 2.5GHz (227MHz x 11) but I had to alter the HyperTransport bus to a 4x multiplier.Overclocking my pc?Why dont you just buy a new PC?Overclocking my pc?CRYSIS QUESTION FROM EARLIER -

    Phenom x4 940 cpu ??????????????

    Hi friends

    i have amd x2 6000+(3.01ghz stock) and am2+ mobo m3a78 em

im planning to upgrade my cpu to phenom 940.....

but my doubt is will it give a better performance ....because now my x2 runs with same ghz......3.01

will a quad core with enhanced cache will rise my system performance?anyone made a change like me in ur cpu???how many fps will increase in major games like crysis???warhead etc..???

pls help me friends....Phenom x4 940 cpu ??????????????the 940 will kick butt at just about anything you throw at it. its about 21/2 times faster then your current CPU .. plus you can OC it with ease. your graphics card will be the limiting factor in FPS in those games.Phenom x4 940 cpu ??????????????It will improve performance, but it's not worth the cost for current games. The smart thing to do would be to wait for it to come down in price and for newer game engines to come out.

Does CPU speeds up computer more or Ram or both? by howmuch each?

Hey Fellaws, I'm wondering how does CPU and Ram individually affect speed of a computer? I recently added more Ram to my PC and it's faster in opening/closing programs and multi-tasking. What I wanna know is if I add 1 GB more of Ram would speed up my PC more or if I somehow magically change my 3.4 GHz CPU to 4.4 GHz? (not worrying about how it's not possible and motherboard compatibility and all)

Thank You's ;)Does CPU speeds up computer more or Ram or both? by howmuch each?Double the CPU speed will give your about 1.5x the speed, the same with RAMDoes CPU speeds up computer more or Ram or both? by howmuch each?1into2into 3into4 they all work together the more ram you have the better Program will run having a dedicated graphics card alleviates strain on your cpu/hard drive which makes things work faster as well as ram but remember 32 bit like xp you really get no use but 3.5 gig of ram for say like 4 and above you need 64 bit like vista or windows 7Does CPU speeds up computer more or Ram or both? by howmuch each?ram has nothing to do with it

Computer cpu swap. 2.3 to 2.8 ghz. do I have to update bios?

I have a compaq presario 2500 laptop. came with 2.3 ghz. processor and 512 mb of ram. I came across a dell laptop parts donor. it had 2.8 ghz processor and 1gb of ram. swapped the parts. ram first. works great. then decided to go ahead and try the cpu swap. fits perfect. the computer still works but is slower. in my computer properties it recognizes the 2.8 ghz processor but think it is running at 908 mhz. the number below the processor. I have been told that I need to update the bios if so how. I have also read about changing the voltage to the cpu in the bios. but what would I change it to and how much is to much?Computer cpu swap. 2.3 to 2.8 ghz. do I have to update bios?I would put your orginal cpu back in. Running the replacement at 908mhz indicates the chip has suffered deterioration. Althought the 2.8ghz is bigger in number it sounds like your cpu didn't have any deterioration.

How to make the CPU auto switch on when the UPS is turned on??

I have a PC, I want it to switch it on itself as soon as I switch on the UPS, i guess some hardware changes have to be made inside the CPU(I mean wires should be placed on particular)slots.

Can anyone please help me with it,

I will be greatfull to uHow to make the CPU auto switch on when the UPS is turned on??Hi. An ATX style motherboard can be powered up by jumping two pins on the main power cable. The wires are green and black and are number 4 and 3, I think. I personally would not do this because you will experience some pretty wild swings in voltage until everything settles down in the UPS. http://www.virtual-hideout.net/guides/at If you decide to try this anyway, just get a crimp connector and crimp it on the two wires. Or you could run wires to a SPST switch to make it so this function can be defeated.

Before you go about to warn be about the dangers of OverClocking, its totally ok because this is a trash model i found in the dumpster for experimenting.

The Mobo is a Biostar with a 1.7ghz intel cpu. It only gots 128mb ram. Im placing one of my own heatsinks and fans on it to keep it cool. The Bios is Very Overclock friendly, it allows me to tweak the cpu and ram each in two ways. now im gonna list what the bios stated.

    *For the CPU

CPUClock Ratio [10x] (with the option to change to from 10min to 24max

Spead Spectrum [+/-0.25%] (dunno what this is for)

How do I get my different screensavers to change?

Is there a way to get all of my different screen savers to work and change at different times? I'm (obviously) not that cpu literate. Any help is appreciated!!!How do I get my different screensavers to change?Easy, Jon. Go to start, control panel, display, click the tab that says screensavers, choose when you want the screensavers to begin (e.g. in 10 minutes), the amount of time you want each screensaver displayed (e.g. 10 seconds), whether you want transitional effects, and the speed at which you want those effects to take place (slow, medium or fast), and you're on your way. webshots.com offers wonderful photos of animals, scenery, rainbows, sunsets, tropical pictures, sea life, almost anything you can imagine. You register for free with them at webshots.com and, if you like, they'll send you their sampler of webshots for the week. If you like a photo, doubleclick on it, and it will download in seconds. You can go back even several years through their archives, and pull together a great collection that you create yourself. It's free, it's fun, and you can even do a search for (e.g. waterfalls) and webshots.com will bring up all the waterfall photos they have. I have everything from the Taj Mahal at sunset to paintings by Monet. Enjoy yourself and have fun with it. You can do it, Jon; I know you can! 1) Do overclocking in very small increments.

    2) Everytime you increase it, run a load test on the system to make sure it's stable

    3) Repeat

When it gets to the point of the system hanging or acting strangely, dial it back a couple of notches in the bios.

You might want to think about increasing the cooling on it before you start playing around with it. From what I can remember about those old CPU's is that they don't have very substantial cooling. If you've got some old fans lying around, you can always Frankenstein something together. I remember I had one I oc'ed back in the day that I cut a hole in the side of the case and ducted 6 case fans onto the CPU to take away the heat. I got a good 20% performance boost out of the computer that way.

  • What is the system crystal on the main board?

What is the system crystal that sets the system bus clock and CPU clock?

If you up the system crystal on the motherboard? Like the clock cycles?

I really confused about the bus speed , CPU speed ? And what the system crystal does?

How can you change the bus speed or CPU speed to get higher GHz?What is the system crystal on the main board? The crystal is a piece of quartz mounted in a small metal can the size of a bug. It does a curious thing... it vibrates electrically at a speed proportional to it's size. The tiny tiny electrical signal is amplified by an integrated circuit (IC), which uses it as the basis to generate a whole set of computer level voltages, each one going on and off at different speeds. The IC chip is usually designed to use a crystal of a specific speed, and in this way it can accurately (or as accurately as the tolerance of the crystal) generate the clock signals used by a computer.

This is also why some watches are more expensive than others, good watches use a crystal with a tighter tolerance, which is more expensive to produce.

You really don't want to change this crystal on your computer board unless you really, really know what you are doing (like you built the board from a kit). The chip which generates the clock signals can be changed programmatically to generate different speeds, so the crystal itself doesn't change... the way the crystal's base frequency is multiplied changes.

The multiplier is usually set automatically by the BIOS when the computer starts, but you can 'overclock' your system by forcing this multiplier higher. I strongly recommend you don't do this... instead of getting a faster computer, you'll burn out the slow one you won't have anymore when you have to buy a faster one anyway. If your CPU could take the extra speed, they would have already sold it with that rating. What is the system crystal on the main board?I guess you are talking about the clock, a microchip that controls the timing and the speed of all the computer's functions. that chip includes a crystal which vibrates at a certain frequency when electricity is applied to it.

The Front Side Bus (FSB) is the connection between the CPU and system memory.

The Front Side Bus operates at a speed which is a percentage of the CPU clock speed.

The faster the speed at which the Front Side Bus allows data transfer, the better the performance of the CPU.

CPU speed is measure in megahertz. A 1MHz CPU can accomplish one million CPU cycles in one second.

Does this mean that a 2MHz CPU is twice as fast as a 1Mhz CPU?

Not necessarily. This depends on how much work each CPU accomplishes in each clock cycle.

The 1MHz CPU might very well be faster, in practice, than the 2Mhz CPU - if it is more efficient or can process more tasks in each CPU cycle.

The purpose of a cache is to enable the CPU to access recently used information very quickly.

Cache: A cache will significantly affect CPU performance.

Some caches are bigger than others. A typical L1 cache is 256Kb and a typical L2 cache is 1MB.

Generally speaking, the larger the cache, the better the system performance boost.

RAM has an access speed. Faster RAM will mean the CPU has to wait less often for data. This will, effectively, make the CPU faster.

To overclock you can make changes in the Bios.

Each of these topics is a study in itself, Read your manual or try Googling your motherboard for detailed information.

I have a 2.40 ghz cpu chip how much can i sell it for?

It is a intel 2.40/128/400 sl6vu cpu chip out of a dell dem 2400. I was going to put it in my hp 750c that has a 1.8ghz cpu but with a faster cpu u have to change jumpers so it will work right plus i dont even know what my hp has in it. If there is a easy way to explain how to put it in the hp that would be nice if someone could help. But i dont think it can be done. So I will sell it. That is my ? how much could i sell it for a good price to get rid of it cause it is just going to sit in the static wrap i have for it and never be used.I have a 2.40 ghz cpu chip how much can i sell it for?first of all.... that CPU chip of yours is a celeron (and they are soooo crap)... if your 1.8 CPU is a Pentium, then it is better than you 2.4 Celeron

also, i did a search on your computer model (and dell computers are pretty bad, no one into computers really wants them, like me, i will never ever buy a dell in my life)

its also a basic computer, it only has 512mb RAM (running at only 333MHz), and a poor 80gb hard drive..... i would sell the whole thing to someone for $100..... and also it doesnt have a graphics processing card in it, so itll run apps like crapI have a 2.40 ghz cpu chip how much can i sell it for?Ask twenty or best offer, and be happy to take ten dollars if nobody offers more. Really, there's not much demand for an old Netburst-architecture Celeron chip.

I am looking to buy a new Asus any advice??

I am thinking of buying an Asus Striker or Maximus motherboard. But I'm not sure which one to go for. These motherboards are both around the same price. I only have DDR2 the Maximus supports DDR2 and DDR3. This is the only difference that I can see.

How easy is it to get these up and running and be able to overclock with ease? I am new to this kind of thing. Would I have to buy other things to overclock too?

    Would I have to change my DDR2 RAM Memory? It's a 2GB

(1 x 2) Ballistix 667. 240 pins. The Striker works with 800 but I'm not sure how many pins this has.

There will be no changes to the CPU as this will work with the new motherboard.

Thank you to all you good people who answer these questions.I am looking to buy a new Asus any advice??If the price of the two are around the same, I will go for the Maximus because it is a newer model and it comes packed with lots of overclocking features.

    One day when I was about to use my computer, i turned on the power switch and suddenly there were very strange sound coming the CPU, it goes %26quot;teeet...teeeet%26quot;

By the way, when i change to another CPU of mine with a similar monitor and wiring, the sound also exist, but i am quite sure the computer with another monior and wiring won't give out the sound.

Then after a few attempts i am able to turn it on again, but in the middle of startup when my msn is just about to come out, the computer went off.

Not long later, my computer doesn't work completely, no matter how many times i try.

But after a few weeks of not using my computer but my laptop, i am able to turn it on again, two days from the day, which is today, it isn't working again. Any idea why and how to solve it?

What the hell is wrong with my husbands pc?

My husbands computer was running fine when He turned it off yesterday. Today I turned it on and it won't do anything. Took about 6 hours for all my antivirus, Spyware, malware, And registry programs to run and get rid of problems. But it is still slow. My assorted programs are Speed Up My PC, Registry Booster, Spyware Blaster, Spybot, Spy Eraser, AVG, And CCleaner. Ran ALL of them, Found a bunch of problems but no performance change. Constant 100% CPU usage. I go into processes and stop something that is hogging the usage, And another program starts using it all. I would have to stop all the processes to free the CPU. What do I do. My husband took a hammer to 2 other pc's He had that acted up, And I want this one to be around for awhile. To give You an idea how slow it is, It took Me 20 minutes to write this because of the typing being so slow. The pc specs are 2.66 gig P-4 processor, 2 gigs DDR ram, 256 Meg video card, Dvd player, And some sound card. I am the pc person of the house in case You couldn't tell. =) Anyway what do I do?What the hell is wrong with my husbands pc?Reset your husbands pc and while the pc is starting up PRESS F8 and now you should be able to start via Safe Mode. Make sure that the pc is not connected to the internet. Try running all your anti-malware programs while in safe mode (they perform better and faster while in Safe Mode). Remove all malware found. Then restart the pc again. Going to Last Known Good Configuration must only be tried where after doing all anti-malware methods fail.

Or the problem maybe little or no disk space left so you might try freeing more space. (Disk Clean-up).

What the hell is wrong with my husbands pc?restore to a earlier time, also tell your hubby to stop looking at porn! What the hell is wrong with my husbands pc?have you tried restoring the computer to the date that everything was working properly, sound like a virus or spyware problem, you might have to reinstall your operating system again which is time consumingWhat the hell is wrong with my husbands pc?Boot into Safe Mode (F8). Click Start-Run-and type msconfig in the box. When program opens click the Startup tab. Uncheck all of the programs you listed above except AVG. Then restart regular. If it is still slow download a trial of Spyware Doctor from http://www.pctools.com and run it. It will scan and list all of the spyware, malware, etc. on your computer. It won't delete them but at that point you have to but the software. It is well worth it! It sounds like you have an infected PC. Doing a system restore is fine but the problem may return. A friend of mine had a pc that ran slow and Spyware Doctor found over 600 infections. After it removed them his PC ran fine.

Computer start up after installing new PSU Need IT advice.?

Long story how it happened , anyway electricity was being shut off for about 10 mins. I told my landlord to wait til I could shut down my computer. I have an HP Emachine 6400. He cut the power as Vista was shutting down. After the power was back up, I could not turn on my computer nothing it was dead. I changed out the Power Supply, I changed out the CPU fan. However I turn it on, it starts now, but does its POST%26gt; an error comes up about a hardware change , or Vista wasnt shut down properly. I go to recovery to fix. Computer shuts down. I try to get in to the bios. Computer will not stay on longer then 1 min at the most. I can get to almost loading Vista , it shuts down.

I pulled out the battery and , bios is reset there should not be any admin problems.

    All the fans are running.

I can not keep this computer running Any IT out there that can shed light? Computer start up after installing new PSU Need IT advice.?it sounds like you have troubleshooted this problem quite well..

this problem sounds like a cpu heat problem... after the cpu reaches a certain temperature, the computer shuts itself down for precautionary reasons. things you can do -

from a cold start, open up the bios menu and quickly try to find a hardware temperature gauge. after finding this, (should be in advance bios options, or something like that) see what your cpu temperature is at. 45deg is fine, around 50-60 is a bit high, and around 70-90 is dangerously high. so basically, if your cpu is reaching anywhere from 70-90 it will shut down the computer.

the first thing you can try doing, is to see if the cpu fan is properly locked above the cpu.

the thing that you should be worried about is the cpu fan...ive had this problem before and all i had to do is readjust the fan. if this doesn't work then you might look at buying yourself some heat paste.

    good luck

What might be wrong with my cpu?

I know there are probably tons of these but I feel each one is probably a bit unique since not everyone has the same parts.

I put this computer together myself about three years ago and didnt have any issues. Recently I was dealing with blue screens and I started to notice my cpu was getting hotter then usual (about 35c+). The original paste was pretty much covered in dust and dried up so I bought some new (Connectland Silver Cool Thermal Compound Silver Cool 1.5g). I removed the old and put on the new as directed and I'm running the computer...though nothing seems to have changed. I checked the cpu fan as well and it is running. When I run IMVU it jumps up to a little over 50c and will start to lag if it goes any higher but like before if I try and run any games it usually has three different outcomes depending which one I try. It will either spaze out on the graphics causing everything to be distorted, lock up and cause the music to skip, or freeze the computer entirely. Is there something more I am missing?

Here is the info I got off of dxdiag:

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition

My tower has 3 fans and a lot of ventilation space and as far as I know it's not over-clocked because I have no clue how to do that yet. Also I do live in a dusty area, but I try and use an air can to keep it out of the tower as much as possible. What might be wrong with my cpu?55C at full load is fine for an E4400. There was no reason to replace the thermal compound -- thermal compound only needs to flow when it's first attached. Once it's in place, it can dry out with no affect on cooling.

I'm not sure what's causing your issues. Does it only happen in games or does your CPU fail stress tests? Maybe your graphics card is going. What might be wrong with my cpu?50c is pretty hot. You may want to make sure that heatsink/fan are securely locked in place.

It may be a software issue, like malware or a virus. I'd run a full anti virus scan, and an Adaware scan. Also check your hard disk, run chkdsk /r from the command prompt for each hard drive.

:( its really frusturating. but u hv to download it if u dont hv the cd .Why can't i transfer my game to my new pc?any computer whiz here?It is not possible to copy a game or any program from one Windows computer to another computer. It will not work. The game needs to be re-installed.

You also might not have a graphics card that can handle the game in the other computer. Why can't i transfer my game to my new pc?any computer whiz here? You can't transfer a program, it has to be installed on the new computer the same way it was installed on the old one - either from the CD or the installation program, or however you did it on the first one. Evidently you're missing some file or registry entry the game uses to interface with DirectX 10 graphics.

Sorry, there's no way to copy it from one computer to another - the installation doesn't just put files on the computer, it also adds things to the registry and adds some files to places other than the folder the game is in. Not too nice for us, but that's how Windows works. Why can't i transfer my game to my new pc?any computer whiz here? The only way you can install it properly, is to download it from the orginal site.

%26quot;Good Luck%26quot; CharlieWhy can't i transfer my game to my new pc?any computer whiz here?Edit: Just noticed you said pen drive, you'll need to install it from the DVD / CDs, copying it to a pen drive destroys its architecture to core windows files.

What graphics card do you have? Its all a Direct X issue (if your computer repairer could work that out he's a moron), try downloading the file from the link below; then do the following:

    Double click on My Computer.

Double click on your Hard Drive (usualy labled C:/)

Look for a folder called WINDOWS

(it may say %26quot;These files are hidden blah blah blah%26quot; click the link just below this text to show the files)

There's a lot of folders in here, look for and open a folder called System32.

Now cut and paste (or drag) the file you just downloaded (d3dx9_34.dll) to this folder.

Try NFS5 again. Why can't i transfer my game to my new pc?any computer whiz here?If your other computer is the same as the current, or if it's got winXP, then why don't you just take the hard disk from the old and put it in the new? Or copy the old HDD (Hard disk drive) and insert it in the new one.

But some games CAN actually be copy pasted from one place to another and still work. Try this:

Open the Game directory and find run.exe

Double click on it and the game should open, cuz run.exe adds the registry key's to Win registry. Why can't i transfer my game to my new pc?any computer whiz here?Id just say install it again, And it is possible to play a copied game =P WoW does haha =D I can just run it off my portable hard drive onto any computer.
