  • How to change you CPU?

I have an old computer and a new computer. The new computer's mother board broke. And I bought a new computer now. That computer works fine. I took apart my slightly new computer that broke. So I have many parts some of which I put inside my old computer. But I was wandering if I could put my broken computer's CPU processor and put it into my old computer instead, since my old computer has a worse CPU.How to change you CPU?The old motherboard might not work with the New CPU. Read the specs on both boards to see if the new board and old board use the same CPU. That's doubtful.

Some of the PCI boards and disk drives will work in the old, but the CPU and RAM must be a match. Not just pin-out of the socket, but speed, FSB and other parameters. SORRY.

Good luck and Happy Computing! How to change you CPU?You have to know the voltage rating of the two and you have to know if the other motherboard will support the cpu.How to change you CPU?Not likely. Aside from the fact that there have been various CPU footprints over the years, the chipset determines CPU compatibility. The motherboard's chipset is the main essential element that determines specifications, including the CPU that it can support. How to change you CPU?The MB has to support the processor and be the same socket type. Look up the old and new MB and see what the sockets are on them. How to change you CPU?Go to the website for the motherboard of the old computer and see what cpus it supports and see if the one you want to put in it is supported and if it does, if you have the bios version needed to run it. It probably wont work. How to change you CPU?It depends on the compatibility. Your motherboard will only accept certain CPUs. If it will take your other CPU, go for it.

FYI, even if the CPU physically 'fits', it is totally possible to still be incompatible. How to change you CPU?you can always try

How difficult is it to change a CPU on a pc?

I'm really good at computers. Been a natural since i was a child. Broke so many computers I'm great at fixin em. But before i invest around 200 bucks in a good CPU, I wanna make sure it is as simple as i think it is. So is it simple? install driver pop out the CPU and put in the new one. Simply follow the instructions on the box. Or are there complicated details im not thinking of? Ive never fiddled with cpu changes or repairs so does it need a specific type i need to look at before i buy a new one and compare to make sure its compatible or will any chip fit in the square it rests in? THANKS IN ADVANCE. ur prolly saving me 200 bucks or saving me from procrastinating it any longer. BTW now that im here might as well ask. I have a hp dv2000 and the motherboard finally went out i believe any info i shud kno bout that before i buy another for it? lol thnx guysHow difficult is it to change a CPU on a pc?If you are going to invest in another cpu, you need to see what kind you have now, and make sure the new one has the same socket. And also, that your motherboard will support the new cpu.

Look at AMD processors on the AMD website, and you will see that there are many different sockets for just AMD alone. socket A, socket 754, 939, 940, AM2, AM2+, AM3. And Intel probably has as many different processors as AMD, if not more.

So, you cannot just pop in a CPU without doing some background research. Will it fit and work on your Mobo? Is your cpu Intel or AMD?

If you have a fairly good case, and you measure it and find out that another regular ATX mobo will fit, then you might consider buying a mobo CPU combo, and installing them, but then you would also probably need to get new memory, because chances are that the memory sticks would be different also.

As others have mentioned, installing a new CPU isn't really that difficult, just use precaution around the chips on the mobo, and other chips, to prevent them from shorting out by static electricity. That is why you need to ground yourself to the metal of the case.

Take off the old Fan and heatsink, sometimes they come off as a unit, sometimes not. Then, when you install the new CPU, assuming it fits and will work, you then put a tiny drop of Artic Silver or other good thermal paste, on top of the CPU and gently place the fan/heatsink on top of that, and pull it down with the lever. Not too much thermal paste. The objective is to make a conductive surface to conduct heat from the CPU to the heatsink. Too much thermal paste is bad as not enough.

I read somewhere, that the surface of the heatsink, although it looks smooth, has tiny scratches that are hardly visible, but these cracks prevent heat transfer, since they do not touch the CPU at those points. So a thin film of paste will fill the cracks, and that is all you need. How difficult is it to change a CPU on a pc?If you are so good at computers, you should know. If you don't, you overestimated yourself.

Yes it's that simple. How difficult is it to change a CPU on a pc?Its easier than pie once you know how to take off the Heatsink/fan. Here is the easiest ways i do it:

1.Make sure you have Silver Arctic Thermal Paste, Qtips, Screwdriver, and Rubbing Alcohol.

2.Ensure you are grounded to the Tower first. (just touch the metal casing ends with both hands)

    3. Remove your Side panel and also the heatsink/fan with screwdriver. (may need to ground tool too)

    4. Pull the lever that secures the CPU itself.

    5. Clean the existing bottom of the HSF by using qtips and alcohol to wipe clean.

    6. The new CPU only goes in 1 way so its hard to screw up.

    7. Put a small dab of the paste.

    8. Install the HSF properly and ensure its secure to motherboard.

    9. your done!

Is it easy to change a cpu on a laptop?

is it easy to change a cpu on a laptop and how do I know which cpu to getIs it easy to change a cpu on a laptop?Yeah, remove the bad one, take with ya and get same type . ~Is it easy to change a cpu on a laptop? Not always.

For one thing you have to know that the CPU can be replaced at all, as many laptop manufacuters prefer to solder the CPU to the motherboard instead of using the socket approch.

Also there is the matter to finding out what CPU your motherboard and BIOS can support

Then there is actually getting the laptop CPU, as they are not as easly found as desktop CPU (and desktop CPUs in laptop are highly NOT RECOMMEND FOR MANY REASONS)

Finally there is the actually process of opening up your laptop, taking out the various laptop components to reach the CPU, removing the CPU, adding the termial paste, putting the laptop back together.

Its a technically challenging problem for a newbie. Plus if you screw up, it can render the motherboard (mobo) total junk. Yes, you can replace the cmos battery, cheap and usually quite easy. Usually a simple button battery just like a watch battery. See your mobo manufacturer's web site for details about how to flash the bios. I have a Pentium 2 and want to change the processor and add Pentium 3?But I don't know how!How to change my CPU Processor?a) make sure your motherboard supports it

    b) open you're pc case

    c) there will be a big fan on the motherboard. Remove the fan/metal part (heatsink) under it.

    d) you will see a chip, pull it out. Do not make alot of contact with it.

add the heatsink and fan back on

    close the pc

fire it all upHow to change my CPU Processor?u will need a new motherboard ...How to change my CPU Processor? It's not too hard. Things to consider: Make sure your motherboard socket can take the new processor. When you install the new process, make sure to your plenty of thermal grease like Arctic 5 i believe.

Usually swapping processors is unhinging some clips. But seriously, make sure your motherboard can take the new processor. How to change my CPU Processor?A Pentium 3 is not compatible with a Pentium 2 socket. You would need to replace the motherboard too.

Pentium 3 motherboards are getting hard to find as they haven't been manufactured for about 6 years, an eternity in computer time. You may be able to find one on EBay. You need to ind one compatible with whatever socket your Pentium 3 uses.

Better yet, replace the motherboard and processor with new ones. You can purchase matched motherboards and processors at numerous places on the Internet. But unless you can do it yourself, you won't gain much. Avoid paying someone to do it. This is because by the time you purchase all the needed parts, and pay someone to install them, you are well past the price of an entry level Dell.

  • Changing CPU for Better Gaming Speed!?

So, my laptop is pretty much great for gaming...except for the CPU. The stock one it came with is a single core lovely AMD Athlon 64 (I was being sarcastic on the %26quot;lovely%26quot;) and it spits out an ugly 1.6 ghtz. I Don't like that at all, so I found a different, Triple-core Processor which would make me happy. All the stats for it match and I've seen Youtube Videos on how to change the Processor. The socket matches and my only question is: should i change it by myself or should I get professional help and how much would that cost?

All answers appreciated!Changing CPU for Better Gaming Speed!?you can change it by your self if you can... or watch first videos how to install the cpu.

Is your board support that triple core processor? check also your board features before upgrading your cpu.Changing CPU for Better Gaming Speed!?Except that AMD does not yet have a triple core mobile processor. It will not fit into your laptop. Next time pay attention to the socket used.

I seriously doubt they'd be compatible with an old single core laptop, seeing as how it's the %26quot;S1g4%26quot; socket, which is NOT the same thing as S1. In addition, you're not thinking of the thermal and power requirements of the new chip, and your video card will be crap to go along with the crap CPU. You're completely wasting your time.Changing CPU for Better Gaming Speed!?You are wasting your time. Even if you could change the CPU to the triple core processor you desire (I don't think you can its not compatible) you would still be stuck with the slow none gaming GPU built into your laptop which you can't swap out. So your best bet would be to buy a new laptop as oppose to trying to upgrade it. In laptops I NEVER recommend you upgrade anything other than the memory or the hard disk drive. Anything else that is not factory installed is normally not worth bothering with.

Can I change my CPU for my laptop?

I already know how it is very difficult and that it most likely cant be done, but can I upgrade my laptops Intel Pentium Processor to a dual processor or something better and faster. If I can, what cost am I looking at?Can I change my CPU for my laptop?CPU upgrades are possible. Even Dell provides documentation on the procedure. You can only upgrade to a certain set of processors. They must use the same socket in order for it to fit. In addition, the BIOS has to support the CPU as well. You can't simply upgrade a Pentium II to a Core 2, etc.

If you're using a Pentium Dual Core (and not the Pentium of 1990s), it is possible to upgrade to a Core 2 Duo processor.

Used/pulled Mobile CPUs will cost around $30 - $100 from eBay. Retail boxed Intel CPUs will cost you over $150.Can I change my CPU for my laptop? No.

Can't really say much else, sorry

what you can do however is upgrade your ram, which will give you a big performance increase. You should probably have around 4 gigabytes these days.

If i wanted to change my cpu chip can i?

are they all compatible or do i need a specific chip? and how can i tell what socket type i have?

If i wanted to change my cpu chip can i?You would need to know your motherboards make and model as well as the bios version you have. Then check the motherboards make website, there you should find which cpu's it supports, and whether or not a bios update is available, which usually adds additional cpu support. If i wanted to change my cpu chip can i?They are not all compatible, you need to make sure not only the socket is the same but that the motherboard is capable of supporting the CPU that you want to upgrade to.

To know which one you need all depends on what kind of computer you have. Most standard, pre-built computers like HP or Toshiba will not have it obviously labled.

You would have to look at the specifications sheet to find out what socket you need. Then you would have to find out what range of CPU's the system can accept.

If i wanted to change my cpu chip can i?your owners manual will tell you everything. If i wanted to change my cpu chip can i?Google Belarc advisor download and install it, then run it, it will give you a complete spec list of everything in your comptuer, find the motherboard model number and manufacturer then go to the manufacturers website and enter the model number and find out if you can upgrade the proccessor

if the motherboard is too old you may have to buy a new one to upgrade the processor. If i wanted to change my cpu chip can i?No they are not all compatible, certain chips work with certain boards. You need to find out the type of MB in the computer. One way is to look on the board for the model number. Then search it in Yahoo! Or look it up on Wikipedia. For example, If it is an AMD then it could be a Socket AIf i wanted to change my cpu chip can i?It has to be compatible with your mother board. It's probably not worth doing. And if you have to ask this question, I'd advise you not to even try. It takes a special tool to remove it correctly. And there's pins you can bend putting a new one in if you don't know exactly what you're doing...

The data you need is printed on top of the CPU itself.

There's also new settings to adjust once a new CPU is installed.

How do i change my cpu in my computer?

its a few years old and slow.

    is it easy to change?

or if i take it a pc shop how much would it cost? How do i change my cpu in my computer?changing the processor is fairly easy, you need to buy the right fitting, typically intel processors are socket 775, AMD can be a few different ones - Socket a (if its quite old), socket 939, its its up to 3 years old, or socket AM2 ifs its fairly new.

If you take out the processor, it will say so in the socket mount. you should also be able to find out what fitting it is from the actual processor name.

removing the cooling fan and metal heat sink is fairly easy, then there is a arm on the fitting itself.

they only fit one way and you will see a marker on the bottom of the processor and the fitting. you will also need to have a paste known as cooling compound to put between the heat sink and the processor, this should be fairly thin.. there are guides online for this.

shops may charge a fair bit to do the change, it takes around 10-20 minutes to do it when your working slowly.. so im guessing about 30 plus the cost of the processor.

if you want to know what processors you can put in, find out the motherboards make and model and go to the website to find out what processors are supported.

How do i change my cpu in my computer?buy a new oneHow do i change my cpu in my computer?buy a new one, its just a little chip that you put into your motherboard with a fan fitted above it.

Buying one will cost about $200 for a good one, taking it in to be fitted, CHEAP!!How do i change my cpu in my computer?you need to check with the motherboard manufacturer to see what cpus your motherboard will support. but depending on how old it is you would probably be better off with a new mainboard cpu combo. Changing CPU Frequency In Bios?

How do I change My CPU frequency through Bios. I'm running an Asus m2n68-am Plus, and i recently got a dual core, CPU, that the salesperson said was compatible. i put it in and now when i boot it blue screens, and tells me the frequency is too high and has to be adjusted to 1000mhz or something. I can only run my PC in safe mode at the present.Changing CPU Frequency In Bios?you can adjust it by working out what values are needed, you need to find what you can and can't change, the frequency of the cpu is the clock multiplier x the FSB or base frequency, for example a clock multiplier of 5 and a Front Side Bus (Or Base Clock) of 133mhz results in 655mhz. Just find out what values you can change so if the multiplier is locked at 6x or whatever change the FSB to get as close to the desired clock so 1000mhz/6x clock multiplier = 166mhz FSB needed.

Usually when you replace a CPU and this happens the best thing to do is reinstall windows, all sorts of weird things can happen when you change CPU's/MotherboardsChanging CPU Frequency In Bios? What you need to do is go into your bios settings and change the clock frequency to reflect the speed of your CPU. You can search the internet for the correct multiplier and clock frequency for your cpu and set it into your computer. Generally a motherboard by default should auto detect unless it was changed to manual. You can try loading your bios back to the default settings.

What generally happened was that you went to a different processor and the wrong set of drivers were pre-loaded into your computer. I have seen this before but never really tried to fix this. I just re-imaged/reinstall the operating system. What you can try doing is in safemode is removing the drivers in your device manager. Rightclick my computer and select manage. Select Device manager and expand processors tree. Delete everything in there and restart. If that doesn't work you'll have to reinstall your operating system.

  • Is there any way to change your CPU? How do you do it if you can?

First you need to find the CPU type, speed, socket, FSB and what is the maximum speed that your motherboard support.Download this utility it will give you all the informations. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download181.htIs there any way to change your CPU? How do you do it if you can?yeah just look on your motherboard or in your motherboards book and look for the type of socket u have. to fined this on your motherboard all you have to do is take the cpu out and look on the socket its self( the little square adapter the cpu plugs in to). in the motherboard book it mill be on the page with all the SPEC. then go online and see why cpu's can go in to that type of socket. Is there any way to change your CPU? How do you do it if you can? It's both possible and easy. A better question is %26quot;Is it wise to change your particular cpu?%26quot; The other answers are correct in that it's a motherboard compatability thing.... if you're looking for a relatively simple upgrade, and there are 50% (or greater) faster cpu's both compatable and available for under 100$... go for it! Be sure to clean the heatsink really well, and apply fresh thermal compound. If you have a friend that knows computers, he'll be happy to help you out, and less likely to bend a pin. If you want to do it yourself, you have to remove the heatsink (they are all different). Usually the %26quot;snap%26quot; on. To remove, press down on the lever to unhook. The cpu is then removed by lifting up on the lever next to the cpu socket. Zero force should be required to unseat the cpu itself.

If your motherboard doesn't support significantly faster cpu's and/or those cpu's are expensive (I'd check pricewatch.com), then you're looking at a new motherboard, and maybe new memory too. In that case, you'll (almost certainly) have to re-install Windows too. Based on your current knowlege of computers (no offense, but your's is a VERY basic question), you're probably best off saving for a new system. If your computer is over 3-4 years old, you could see a very nice upgrade in both hardware and software for under $500... with minimal hassle. Is there any way to change your CPU? It is extremely unlikely that you can install a dual core processor onto a socket that holds a single core. However you need to check for yourself.

  • Is it possible to change a cpu without formatting the local disk?

i heard it might be possible to switch out cpu's without formatting your hard drive. i just don't know howIs it possible to change a cpu without formatting the local disk?you change the CPU's around on the motherboard, and you should may need to install some updated drivers for windows, the first time you load it may take a little longer and give you some messages about new hardware in windows but you should not actually need to re-format or do anything of the sort.Is it possible to change a cpu without formatting the local disk?Yes, you can change your processor (as long as it is compatible with your motherboard) without formatting your hard drive.

Just do it.Is it possible to change a cpu without formatting the local disk?yes, much like everyone has already said you can change your processor without formatting your hard-drive. Actually changing your cpu will not affect your hard-drive at all. But you need to know what is your pin count on your current processor. The first thing you need to read up on is the manual that came with your computer, to find out what kind of processor your motherboard can use. The pin count is the most important thing!, don檛 forget, because it would really bum you out when you try to change out your processor and find out it doesn檛 fit =( .

And when you do open your desktop make sure to ground yourself!, I can't stress that anymore, if you don檛 have a anti-static wrist strap you can also touch something that is metal nearby or touch the back of your power source, don檛 put your finger in there just place your hand on the back of your computer where your power source is.

The hardest part about installing the processor is removing the fan clips, don檛 freak!, just got to pry it with the jaws of life and then remember to also buy thermal grease to apply to your cpu and bottom of your heat sink. I hope this was helpful for you, have a nice day!.

Is it possible to change a cpu without formatting the local disk?In layman's terms your operating system 'talks' to the motherboard chipset, not the CPU. If you change the motherboard then your motherboard device drivers need updating. If just the CPU then nothing much to do, the clock speed is automatically catered for (by the OS, BIOS settings may need to change). Just do it and take it from there.

I've been told that i can change the cpu in my laptop but don't know how to do it! I have a dell vostro 1000, 1GB Ram, 120GB Hard Drive. How do i change them? How do i change the cpu in my laptop?if you have never done one before, i would advise taking it to a reputable shop. How do i change the cpu in my laptop? It will probably involve you taking the thing to bits, putting your processor in %26amp; then not being able to put your laptop back together again. I hate laptops for that reason, they aren't easily upgradeable! How do i change the cpu in my laptop?I would advise against this

    a) laptops are very fiddly to dismantle (and reassemble) you could well end up damaging a cable the first time around they are very delicate

    b) you will only get a marginal improvement and

    c) may well run into problems with the greater heat produced by the CPU as the cooling system in the laptop is quite critical e.g. you may find the cooling fan runs all the time making it irritating

You would probably get more improvement by ensuring your RAM is maximised and disk is defraggedHow do i change the cpu in my laptop? To change the CPU will involve taking the laptop to bits; Dells are relatively easy to deconstruct but great care must be taken. It not a job for the novice. Generally, it is not a good idea to upgrade the CPU on a laptop as the speed increase is not worth the expense of changing the chip. So in conclusion I would not recommend changing the CPU as at best it will give you a small speed increase but at worst may be very expensive if you damage the motherboard requiring a repair http://www.trilogicuk.co.uk

    Change CPU on desktop?

I have a windows xp 2003. I need to change the cpu. how do i do that? can i just switch it out or do i need other programs etc?Change CPU on desktop?CPU isn't something that's virtual. It's a physical computer part inside your computer tower (this is a tower: http://www.cowden-herrick.k12.il.us/staf ), underneath the heatsink/fan.

To locate it, look in the middle of your motherboard. Here is a picture of a typical mother board.

    http://www.electrical-res.com/EX/10-16-2

The %26quot;chipset%26quot; is where your CPU is, BUT you won't see exactly that. What you will see, if it's a stock heatsink, is this

    http://www.tacticalpanda.co.uk/images/he

    BEFORE CONTINUING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1) Unplug the computer completely from the wall, make sure there are NO cords coming out of the tower.

    2) Ground yourself. Make sure you're not on carpet, it's not going to ruin it, per se, but it makes it easier to ground yourself. To do this, just grab anything metal that's plugged into a wall, like a lamp frame or something. Static electricity from NOT grounding youself can damage the mobo (motherboard)

    3) Be conscious. Don't make big, fast movements while digging around or you'll knock something loose. Avoid touching gold contacts (the copper colored stuff that plugs into things, like you see on the bottom of this http://databy.com/komplekt/ram_images/KV ), soldered components, or pins (some are very easily bent).

    Open your computer.

Remove the heatsink by disengaging the lever on one side. It will be stiff, and if you've never done it before, it will take more force than you'd think. Still be careful though.

Now, under the heatsink will be a square chip covered in some silvery-gray goo. That goo is called thermal paste and is absolutely necessary. You will need to buy some if you're replacing the CPU.

Disengage the metal lever the holds the CPU in place on one of the sides and lift it SLOWLY AND EVENLY out.

Put in your new CPU. Make sure the arrows on the CPU chip and the mobo line up if there ARE arrows. If not, just make sure it's on right. Putting it on wrong will mess it up. Make sure it's on there, straight and secure.

Engage the CPU lever. Like I said before, it might take more force then you'd think, but like I also said before, be careful.

Put a RICE GRAIN sized dot of thermal paste directly onto the top of the CPU. Smear it around evenly and as thin as humanly possible with a credit card or something like that. You want as little as possible because if it drips onto your motherboard, it could short it out. You'll understand why you need to little when you try to reengage the heatsink, it's so tight on there, just a littlest bit too much will be squeezed out from between them.

Put the heat sink back on top of the new CPU and engage the heatsink lever. For the third time; it will take more force then you're use to if you're new at replacing parts, and for the third time, be careful!! Mobos are very fragile.

If all goes well, a built in speaker on your mobo will beep upon start-up (check the mobo manual for tone patterns and their meanings, usually one beep upon start-up means it's running right)

Good luck and be careful!Change CPU on desktop?Do you mean the Central Processing Unit (CPU)? As in, the chip that does all the computer's thinking?

You do not need any programs, but you need a compatable replacement processor. Find out what socket you have. You can read it off the motherboard, or look up what socket your PC / motherboard has by the model number.

Be careful, it seems like you're not much of an expert at this.

How can I increase the CPU clock to be closer to its rated speed?

I do not want to overclock, just to raise the speed of the CPU. It's an AMD Sempron 3300 rated at 2GHz. WBEMTEST shows that its MAX is 2GHz, and its Current Speed is 795MHz. The Phoenix BIOS setup on this Compaq Presario does not let you change CPU settings. Does anyone out there know how to do this? Thanks! How can I increase the CPU clock to be closer to its rated speed?ib bios the reccomended settings should get you at rated speed...the thing is you got a sempron, they slow down while you task them alot...try your test with nothing else going on but i wouldnt push that cpu its not a amd %26quot;clocker%26quot;.... if ya want some power look into a phenom2 !How can I increase the CPU clock to be closer to its rated speed?Increasing the CPU clock is overclocking. If your bios can't do it, maybe there's some software you can boot with via a floppy that does it, but I have no idea.
