How to get best ram speeds?

How to get best ram speeds?

ok, so im kinda new at this and i need some help.

i bought some new RAM to add to my current machine. So curently i have 2x 1gig sticks of AE(i think thats the brand, but ive never heard of it before) PC2-800, and i bought 2x 1gig sticks of OCZ PC-8500. Its to my understanding(now, after i bought it) that the new RAM will run at the speed of the old, slower RAM. That leaves me with two options, buy more PC-8500 to replace the old RAM(which i dont want to do because its expensive) or make the old RAM the same speed as the new RAM. But, looking around, i have seen people say things about timings and latency, which i know nothing about. I have a few questions. First, what settings should i use to get a good overall speed (meaning clocks, timing, voltage, etc.)? Second, do i have to change my CPU or FSB settings?

Here are my specs(i dont know exactly what you need, so let me know so i can find out):

Mobo: Asus P5Q-E

CPU: Intel Q6600(OCed to 3ghz)

I dont know what else to put. Let me know what specifics you need and i will post them.

Thank you in advance for any help u can give!!!How to get best ram speeds?i would just use the new ocz, don't use different type of ram it can cause instabilities in the system. also look at the bios and the timing for the ocz ram. usually when i come the voltage will be set lower with looser timing. my corsairs manufacture stated it was 2.1v wit 4-4-4-12 but when i put it in my system it was 1.8v wit 5-5-5-15. so just go in bios and change that. How to get best ram speeds?uh

i'm just going to tell you what i know -

never mix RAM

never get RAM with different fsb speed than your motherboard can handle

now days never get under 2gb of RAM.

thats the basics.

in terms of speed, you can download if your motherboard does not already have a RAM overclocking program, you can get one i believe

not to say to overclock the RAM, but just incase you want to check and see how it's running you can always get diagnostics software to download to check the RAM.

or you could always check your bios.

normally, what you want to do is get the best speed of ram for the motherboard you have.

i've looked your motherboard up and it can handle: 1600mhz or 1333mhz fsb speed for the RAM

it says the standard is ddr2 1200 (the name)

you said you have PC-8500 (which i think is impossible.. i could not find it anywhere - i could be wrong..)

there is PC2-8500 or PC3-8500 - @ 1066 mhz average.(which will not work for your motherboard, it will want a different motherboard to run properly - it is a much newer version of ram and the speed is too low of mhz for your motherboard, do not use it.)

you need to have DDR2 1200 - it is the standard for your motherboard- aka PC2 9600.

note: i do agree it is strange how the standard is 1200 when it says 1333 or 1600

please re ask the question but make it much more simple to read, people don't like to answer long questions - i almost pressed back also
