How to overclock cpu multiplier in a dell computer?

Okay, I'm new to overclocking, but have done some research and was hoping for some expert advice. First off, I have a dell precision 390 with (of course) a locked bios. However, the cpu is an intel x6800 extreme which is an unclocked processor. I scoured the internet and their seems to be only one software program that can change the cpu multiplier, CrystalCPUID.

So, does anybody know if I can be successful in using the software to overclock my unclocked cpu, even thought the bios is locked?

If so, can anybody help or point to a link that can explain how to use crystal CPUID? Thanks peeps!

BTW, I'm not interested in changing the FSB since I have an unlocked cpu.How to overclock cpu multiplier in a dell computer?Nope

prebuilt comps can not be overclocked

overclockign programs just change the values in the bois after u reboot.

its much easier just to overclock from the bios

The only prebuilts that will allow u to overclock is Dell XPS and alienwareHow to overclock cpu multiplier in a dell computer?yes it is probably easier to use a program rather than using a bios cpu multiplier, or your could just flash your bios hehe!!!!How to overclock cpu multiplier in a dell computer?the only way to really overclock it through the bios...even to change a multiplier...becuz in most cases you still have to raise the vcore to get it stable even though you are just changing the multiplier...overclocking through a windows program really is not a good idea...you can corrupt your os and a lot of other things...

i never heard of that program...been overclocking a long time through the bios....thats the way its suppose to be done.....more control over what your doing....

ScottHow to overclock cpu multiplier in a dell computer? As far as I am aware that program only changes the multiplier on AMD cpu's. You would really need to go into BIOS and change the FSB in conjunction with the multiplier and memory speed etc.

You would need to change FSB from 266 to 378 and use a x9 Multiplier to give you an overclock of 3.4Ghz.

You may need to make sure that as you ramp these settings up to make sure the memory clock does not go above 800 Mhz were you using PC6400 DDR for examle. You may also have to give the cpu an extra .02v .04v extra and your memory up to 1.8v -1.9v.

It is all about experimenting to get the most stable o/clock, the fact you have the extreme means you have more choice with the settings because as you know the multi is unlocked.

How do you upgrade a CPU of computer?

Hi,

I have a Compaq Presario SR1710NX It is getting slow and I thought I might give it a boost with a new processor

Here is the current processor I have

AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3400+ Socket 939

I was thinking about upgrading to an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+

The problem is that this is my first time upgrading and I do need help on upgrading the processor

For example, what parts should I change? Do I change just the CPU or get it some better heat sink and fan too?

How do I change the CPU in the computer?

Any tips would be appreciated

Thanks! How do you upgrade a CPU of computer?By putting the words:

compaq presario sr1710nx specs

into Google.com, I got:

http://www.google.com/search?q=compaq+pr

The 2nd/3rd hits took me to the HP support site (since HP owns Compaq now). That is at:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/Tec

The specs on that page say the motherboard is an Asus A8AE-LE also named a AmberineM-GL6E. Now, it's a crapshoot as to whether any specs on this board are going to be found at www.asus.com because Compaq often has a special version of the board made just for them. There ought to be a fairly generic version that's close though.

We want to find the motherboard specs to see which CPUs it supports. We know it's a socket 939 CPU, but those come in a range of speeds and not all speeds work on all motherboards.

Next stop is Asus' support web site at: http://support.asus.com/download/downloa to see how close we can get.

Nada. Lot's of choices under: Motherboard -%26gt; Socket 939 -%26gt; but none of them is A8A-anything A8V (Via chipset) and A8N (Nvidia chipset), but this is A8A (ATi chipset, I guess). It looks like a commercial version of this motherboard doesn't exist. In short, you're not getting any info from Asus.

I was able to find some general info at:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docum

Discussion on hacking what apparently is the cripped BIOS in the SR1710NX's motherboard: http://www.geocities.com/whydothis1000/m

Some posts I ran across claim that theirs came with a AMD 64 3400+. Another post claims to have found that the following processors have been used in the board:

Athlon64 X2 4800+

Athlon64 X2 4200+

Athlon 64 4000+

Sempron 3200+

I found a huge thread about this motherboard and how to get the latest BIOS and what processors people have gotten to work in it at: http://www.wimsbios.com/phpBB2/topic8350 It sounds like the X2 4400+ has been made to work.

If you get a retail version of the an AMD processor, it will include a new heatsink and fan, which I would recommend using just because your existing fan is probably getting old. It will also include new thermal bonding compound (in the form of grease or tape on the heatsink, probably). Finally, it will include instructions on installing the CPU and heatsink/fan. In general, you disconnect the power connector for the fan, release the clips for the heatsink, open the zero insertion force release on the CPU and remove it. Reverse those steps to install. The manual will have details. How do you upgrade a CPU of computer?First, you need to remove the old CPU and heat sink. Then, put in your new CPU, and, if your CPU is retail it will come with a new heat sink. Attach that.

  • CPU Overclock: Why is my FSB locked?

I'm running the AMD Phenom II X4 965 OEM good at 3.9Ghz (from 3.4Ghz), but when I increase the multiplier from x19.5 to x20.0 and run a stability test, I crash and my motherboard, the ASUS M3A78-CM CPR's the CPU (I get a blue error screen). I reckon it's because I'm pushing the multiplier too high. So in order to fix this, I need to raise the FSB, front side bus. When I go into my BIOS settings, I change the CPU Overclock to %26quot;manual%26quot; and it pops up with the HT Ref. Clock and shows 200Mhz. When I press enter to change it, no menu pops up in order to change it. I went into AMD Overdrive, and the FSB there was also locked. Anyone know how to unlock it? Thanks =)CPU Overclock: Why is my FSB locked? The FSB is ram speed. If your ram can't be overclocked or the mobo doesn't support overclocking the fsb, there isn't much you can do.

Some cpus have features locked too. Sometimes you can change jumpers on the mobo to bypass locks and sometimes you can't.

    I need overclocking help (cpu/gpu/ram)?

Ok first things first... sys specs

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2

    System Model: Dimension 4600i

BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A09

    Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)%26lt;-HT

    Memory: 1278MB RAM (3x128 1x256) 333Mhz

    Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 6200

I would like to overclock where I can without being ridiculously risky.

What areas can I overclock in, and I need a good guide on how to do it, the main problem I'm having is locating the jumpers I need to change multipliers.

    CPU/GPU are the most important.

    Thanks,

SimbaI need overclocking help (cpu/gpu/ram)?Overclocking the RAM and CPU is done in the BIOS but those options are most likely locked on a dell diminsion. The GPU however can be overclocked with atiTool. There are many overclocking guides, just google to find some. www.overclock.net is a sight that I use a lot and lots of really knoledgable people there. There are also guides and facts on that sight.I need overclocking help (cpu/gpu/ram)?its not that simple as u think , be very sure of what you do else the CPU may burn out .I need overclocking help (cpu/gpu/ram)?On top of what Scott said, you need CoolBits, not ATi tool as your card is an Nvidia.

And yes, Dell/Compaq/Hp/etc lock their BIOS so people cannot destroy the PC's and claim warranty work.

Also, the P4 and Pentium D were the crappiest Intel CPU's out there as they run very hot (especially in a Dell case) and were not competitive with AMD's Athlon64 and X2 models. So even if you were able to get past he locked BIOS on your Dell, you could probably have to upgrade your case, CPU heatsink/fan, or possibly both.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_4#P

    http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/c

On another note, not all motherboards overclock very well. Generally the cheaper the board, the less overclocking features will be available. And beleive me, Dell/Hp/etc. use the cheapest motherboards they can get their hands on.

Memory also comes into play when overclocking, and the preferred setup is 2 x 1gb sticks. Your mismatch total of 640mb would probably hinder overclocking, even if you had a decent motherboard as they would probably not all run at the same speeds.

They are clipped on from mounting holes surrounding the CPU. Most come with a thermal pad that assists with heat transfer to the cooler, if they don't you MUST buy a small tube of heat thermal paste

You also have to clean off the old heat compound with isopropyl alcohol or spirit

Try to avoid buying coolers that require access to the underside of the motherboard to fix the mounting plates otherwise you may have to dismantle the whole kit

Ensure you get the correct cooler for your CPU they can be different.

how can i make 2.1 bigger do i need new cpu or another cpu or change something in options? Any ideas? How to make cpu speed bigger?i Presume you mean overclock.

Enter the bios and look for the FSB settings or Motherboard Intelligent Tweaker.

    Some motherboards are different

    j

ust move it up a notch and save and exit

use pc for a a few hours and if it does not crash or u get a blue screen then move the FSB up to the next setting.

dont just whack it right up as u can easily get ure system shot.

also keep an eye on the mobo temp, which also should be showing in a setting in the bios

write down what its at for the moment,

if ure phenom just had the standard retail heatsink and fan, u may not get to far.

all this is going to invalidate ure warranty if u have one and stress the cpu out more, generate more heat, which means the case will get hotter as well as the mobo making the cpu fan work harder so the rpm will increase all shortening the lifespan on ure hardware.

Depending on ure mobo the FSB settings and CPU voltage in the bios may be greyed out so u wont be able to do jack

How to make cpu speed bigger? If you have a triple core processors i don't think it is maxed out. Typically most PCs come with 1-2GB of RAM i would recommend maxing that out and then seeing how it works. Alot of time it is the background processes that slow the processor up. the RAM will increase the functionality of your processor. How to make cpu speed bigger? It's not likely that you'll be to get a more powerful CPU - the changes in architecture and voltage that your mobo will accept are minimal compared to what it would probably cost, and could just as easily raise your heat output.

Instead, get more RAM, max it out if you can, and if you can, get a better graphics card. What kind do you have now? What expansion slots? How to make cpu speed bigger? You can overclock the CPU. Overclocking is when you tell the CPU to go faster. It will often not work or even break the CPU (and definitely void your warranty). It will always make it run hotter and use more power. You can just get a faster CPU if you want to do it safely. Or get more RAM to boost performance if you have less than 2-3 GB.

Can i speed my CPU up?

Ok so my computer is an AMD 9600 Quad core at 2.29 GHz. How can i get it to be faster with out using Over clocking type methods.. Im not willing to risk the life of my PC. So what should i do? I need it around 3GHz.But any increase in speed is good

And i dont want to change my CPU. Just let me know. ThanksCan i speed my CPU up?As far as i know the only way to bump that up to 3GHz is to overclock it. And by the speed of your current cpu, that would be quite a feat. So if you do decide to overclock, you first need to adequately cool the cpu by buying a good thermal paste, and perhaps some 3rd party cpu cooler because i don't think you'd be able to accomplish it at that speed without the cpu overheating. And if you have a stock heatsink/fan currently on that AMD, i recommend changing it. Keep in mind that there's quite a margin from the stock speed to your goal. And one more thing about that AMD 9600 that you have, i suggest checking the specs on it beacause i believe they have two that exist. The revision B2 has lower wattage consumption from the other, and that the max temps are also different, so you might want check it out. i wish i can help you specifically, but i don't know your system specs. Just do a search on %26quot;how to overclock%26quot; the basics and you'll learn the formula. Anyways, happy OC'n.Can i speed my CPU up?impossible! oc is the only method without paying extra money.

    How to overclock CPU?

Is it posible to change the CPU speed and make it faster,

for example change it to higher Ghz, or dual core

If its possible can u tell me the instructions?

Thank, CheersHow to overclock CPU?Check and see if your motherboard is compatible with overclocking, if it is, you will have to updae your bios and then you would have to set the jumpers on your motherboard. When you do that, you will go have to go into the bios and check the speed one at a time until you dont get a BSOD and your system is stable, make sure you have a good heatsink to cool it down. How to overclock CPU?you may do that to increase the speed. but you may not set it to a dual core if the computer is a single core. How to overclock CPU?Yea u can increase the speed of it

but if have a Stock cooler, there is no point in doign ti, cuz u will casue dammage to your comp...

But if u have bought a better CPU cooler than all u have to do is go in to your bios, up your core clock, up your memory clokc, and up your voltagesHow to overclock CPU?If you don't know what you are doing due not overclock. If you want to learn how Google How to overclock a CPU and read read read. And then just before you try to see if you can over clock your CPU read a little more. You can damage your CPU if you try to go to far to fast. Get a good after market cooler for your CPU. Go with little steps and make sure everything stays stable and watch your CPU temps. I hope this helped. How to overclock CPU?Yes it is possible but it may void your warranty. First of all your motherboard should support overclocking. second you must know the maximum range of your CPU to which it can be overclocked otherwise it may become a piece of junk. You must have an appropriate power supply as overclocking makes the CPU power Hungry. You cannot change a single core processor to a dual core. If that could happen i would have made my processor a Quad or i7. Don't overclock if you don't have any information about your PC. Take it to a tech freak person who may help you.

Since clearly you would know this if you really had changed it, I suspect that there is a problem with a small memory chip which your BIOS uses to store it's configuration, and it's forgotten what processor you have. Reboot your machine, and near the beginning of the boot sequence there will be a message saying how to enter the BIOS configuration - usually you press a function key. You should look for anything which looks odd like %26quot;not known%26quot;, or %26quot;not confirmed%26quot; in relation to the CPU.

How can I get my PC to play YouTube videos decently? Please help!!!!?

    Specs

CPU: VIA C3 Samuel 2, 796 Mhz, 133 Mhz FSB

MoBo: PCchips M789CG, VIA CLE266 and 8235 chipsets

    RAM: Kingston DDR266, 512mb (256x2)

Video: Integrated VGA, 64mb shared memory

    HDD: Seagate 40gb, 5400rpm

    OS: Windows XP Professional SP2

Now, it works pretty well for most office apps and internet, but when trying to play a video on YouTube, the audio works fine but the video drags a lot and I can't watch it... in general, multimedia tasks or games just don't work well... I've been tweaking configurations a lot but it doesn't seem to work...

I should point out that the CPU came with the MoBo and according to the manual it should be able to play DVDs (theoretically)

So... is there a way to fix this without having to change CPU or MoBo?... and hopefully without adding more RAM?

Could it be related to the HDD read speed?... maybe changing to a 7200rpm HDD could fix it?

Would I really benefit from adding a EVGA FX5200 PCI graphics card with 128mb RAM?

Thanks! How can I get my PC to play YouTube videos decently? Please help!!!!?For playing Videos your best choice would be to upgrade the graphics card.

This upgrade should give you a noticeable difference when playing games or video.

My humble advice to you, save your money, don't waste any change on this computer. Save and buy a complete new system.

Remember, a computer is really the sum of its parts, with a system as old as yours no single upgrade will give you much real world difference in performance. Any new parts would be bottlenecked by the older remaining parts in your system.

  • How long can custom built pcs last?

after researching alot on building pcs i'm going to be building i'm wondering how long they can last and if you can change cpu let say you have a amd3 type motherboard and you want to go for a amd II x 4 that fits on amd3 can youdo that? change to a II x 2 to a IIx4

and also i notice on videos when applying cpu fan doesn't that put preasure on the cpu itselfHow long can custom built pcs last?custom setups depend on your setup. i have one with a massive custom fan that's been around for close to 5 years now. i have ones i've build before that which have been ruining for more than 7. every pc i build, including my servers, have been rock solid, but that's because i build them and i know what i'm doing.

CPUS are somewhat interchangeable but it depends on the socket type and motherboard you are using. you need to use a processor from the same socket family as the one your upgrading from. also some boards don't support some processors, for instance the early 775 boards supported pentium 4 processors but don't support the core2 line even though they are still socket 775.

building your own pc will require a lot of research in making sure you get all your components lined up so that you have a working system with as little %26quot;bottleneck%26quot; as possible and at the same time maintain a good upgrade path for longevity sake. How long can custom built pcs last?It depends on how you use it. I had one I used for ten years and it was still chugging along when I got rid of it. The cpu should be able to take the fan and you have to keep it cool. How long can custom built pcs last?years man and if u can upgrade then decades. like my build is really good

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4g8ezLyQ

:D this will last me about 5 years and then when i upgreat alot longer lolHow long can custom built pcs last?I guess a lot would depend on how well it was built, and how you use it.How long can custom built pcs last?I would prefer building one rather than buying one. If you buy from the right manufacturer, you can get a lifetime warranty. So I would consider that building one would yield better quality parts.

Regardless what CPU cooler you have, whether it be stock or aftermarket, they all put pressure on the CPU. But they are designed for this.

Yes you can upgrade cpus, however sometimes it may require a bios flash. Which isn't all that hard to do. You just would have to check with the motherboard manufacturer to see if it is compatible with whatever new processor you are wanting to add.

Dell pc bios setup for cpu upgrade?

I have a Dell Vostro 220 with a core 2 duo E7300 %26amp; mobo model # Dell Inc 0P301D and vista ultimate installed. Vostro 220 on Dell's website currently can be customized up to a core 2 duo E8600. if I want to upgrade on my own to a cpu like core 2 duo E8400, I know that the fsb would be changed from 1064 to 1333. Would I need to change anything on the bios to adjust this cpu change? Would any other issues arrive if I know how to work with LGA775? The bios brand is Dell Inc and version is 1.0.3Dell pc bios setup for cpu upgrade? You will not have to adjust the FSB as the bios will do this automatically after installing the E8400. You cannot, under any circumstances, adjust the FSB manually on a mainstream OEM PC like the Vostro 220 anyway. This can only be done on uber-expensive enthusiast class prebuilt gaming PCs or custom built PCs that use retail motherboards.

I use the E8400 myself in my own custom built PC and it's a great CPU. I have it overclocked to 4 Ghz and it's wicked fast. Great choice.

Upgrading To a New Motherboard and CPU?

    I have a %26quot;stock%26quot; Dell Dimension 3000 with added 1g ram.

I am upgrading the motherboard and CPU to a an AMD Athlon 64 x2 Black Edition. I still Dont know about the motherboard. I also have a Radeon X1550 256mb video card. This is my first motherboard and CPU change. I have a few questions though. Do i need to install XP again during installation? I have the same Hard Drive. Is there anything i need to do prior to installation of the motherboard and CPU? Is this list complete of all the steps?

i copied and pasted these instructions, these are the instructions i will be following, is there any additional important tips i could have missed?

    The Change of hardware

Changing the motherboard on a computer currently running XP

1.Start Windows and Logon as Administrator.

2.Insert the XP CD in the CD drive.

    3.Let Autorun start.

    4.Click on Install.

5.Select the Upgrade [recommended] from the Windows Setup 6.window Installation Type list.

    7.Click Next

8.Follow on screen prompts until computer restarts.

9.Turn off computer as it restarts.

    10.Remove power cord from computer.

    11.Open Case.

12.Use either an anti-static wrist band or make sure you touch bare metal before handling or touching a component.

13.After labeling all cables and other power connectors; remove cables from motherboard.

14.Remove old motherboard and replace with new motherboard.

15.Attach cables and power connectors by consulting the motherboard user manual, and the labels you made when you disconnected them from the original mother board.

    16.Reboot and access BIOS

17.Depending on the BIOS and OEM manufacturer, set date and time [very important], hard drive detection, CPU settings [if necessary] and boot order.

18.You will need to set the CD DRIVE before the Hard Drive in the boot order when booting from XP CD to Repair Install.

19.For this Upgrade procedure, Ignore %26quot;Press a key to boot from CD%26quot; on restart.

20.EXIT and say YES to SAVE BIOS settings.

    21.Reboot

    22.Allow upgrade to continue.

23.Setup installs the HAL [Hardware Abstract Layer]

The IDE controller drivers [Hard Drive]

Other drivers that the new motherboard must have.

24.Before connecting to the internet, read the Blaster worm warning !

and then click the browser back button to continue.

The following applies to currently working XP systems.

For moving a hard drive from non-booting XP system

follow steps 25-31 then proceed to

    Option #1 Repair Install.

The following information works if the hard drive being moved is a single partition or multiple partitions on a single drive on the computer or if XP is installed on another hard drive [other than the primary master partition Disk 0] and all hard drives from the system XP is moved; are also moved and cabled exactly as the previous computer.

Follow the above steps 1 - 7 before shutting down Windows on the computer the hard drive/s are to be removed.

Press Pause/Break as soon as computer reboots. Remove XP CD.

    Turn off computer

If multiple hard drives are being swapped, write down and label how they were configured. It is very important to preserve the cabling so all drives retain the same drive letters.

Remove the hard drive or drives

Install hard drive with XP installed to new computer, making sure to duplicate the cabling of computer hard drive/s is moved from.

Power on the computer and access the BIOS by pressing the key combination prompted by the BIOS, configure as described in the steps #16 %26amp; #17 above.

    EXIT and SAVE BIOS settings.

    Press Pause/Break, Insert XP.

Press Pause/Break again to continue upgrade.

Before connecting to the internet, read the Blaster worm warning !

    Setting XP to new hardware

Option #1 Repair Install to SET XP to New Motherboard

    Option #1 Repair Install

Do Not BOOT into Windows XP on first boot after Motherboard or Hard Drive change! If booting from CD is not an option, return to BIOS and make sure booting from CD is the first boot option. Booting into Windows is only an option when you do a direct replacement of the Motherboard, otherwise it is like playing Russian Roulette. If you lose, it is fatal!

If your computer does not support booting from the CD, check your OEM or Motherboard makers web site for updated BIOS.

Perform a Repair Install by following the step by step below.

When you see the %26quot;Welcome To Setup%26quot; screen, you will see the options below

This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft

Windows XP to run on your computer:

To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.

This is the option you want to enable to proceed to the Repair Install.

To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.

For the Repair Install do not choose %26quot;To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R%26quot;, (you Do Not want to load Recovery Console). I repeat, do not choose %26quot;To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery CUpgrading To a New Motherboard and CPU?If you are changing the motherboard, you will most likely have to re-install windows. If you are only changing the CPU, you can leave windows as-is.Upgrading To a New Motherboard and CPU?you might have to reinstall OS because chipset would be different.Upgrading To a New Motherboard and CPU?Do a complete format of your hard drive and start clean; ALWAYS the best option. Of course, before you do so save any and all important files onto a separate drive, or discs.

Also- in the future, do not buy from Dell, Compaq, etc. because they implement certain BIOS restrictions, it's a pain in the butt; always do an independent build.

Repair is a waste of time. It sucks, and there is great benefit in starting fresh, clean and anew while saving desired files such as family pics, etc.

I made 3 changes in the BIOS and now there is no signal from the motherboard to the display after booting up.?

I've tried the Delete key as well as all the F keys and I can't see that I'm in the BIOS. The display does work and shows when there is %26quot;No Signal%26quot;. The changes I made were; Do not display large Logo, Change CPU from from Performance mode to Optimize mode, and a small (the smallest possible) CPU voltage adjustment. How can I get the monitor to display? The computer does boot and DVD drives do open. Thank you.I made 3 changes in the BIOS and now there is no signal from the motherboard to the display after booting up.?Take out your CMOS battery, the flat round one, on your motherboard then put back in to reset your BIOS. Something you changed made your computer hate you. They sound fine to me, but one of those settings caused a failure of some kind.

how do i do it is it like changing ram?How do i change my pcs Cpu pentium 4 to core 2 duo?No, you can't just swap out cpu's like ram, you'd have to change the whole mother-board. If you want to upgrade to a core2 duo, you'll really have to buy or build a whole new computer.

  • Procedure for changing a cpu?

Im planning on upgrading my dell 2.0 ghz single core cpu to a 2.8 socket 478. I know how to change them but do i have to apply thermal paste or what other things should i do?Procedure for changing a cpu?if u buy a cpu the thermal paste will already come with the fan jst dont touch the bottom also if u remove the fan then u have to apply it u only have to put as much as a size of a peaProcedure for changing a cpu?the thermal paste goes between the cpu and the heatsink/fan unit.Yes you need it.just a small dab in the middle that you can envision just being enough to cover the area when the two are pressed together.Assuming the new cpu is compatible, nobig deal.Make sure PC is unplugged, and you have discharged any static electricity in your body.Procedure for changing a cpu?First make sure your motherboard is capable of upgrading...maybe it wont support w/e ur tryna install..and since its dell...its really harder to upgrade.. But, to change a cpu.. get thermal paste apply a rice size..spread around that...clean the heatsink off (if your using the same) with rubbing alcohol ..then put it back on and ur done =)Procedure for changing a cpu? After you take out the old cpu and put in the new makeing sure you don't touch the pins and that you release all static electrisity before touching the motherboard, you need to apply thermal paste.

Just apply a drop in the middle. Then use your finger to spread it.

Thermal paste ensures that heat is always being trasfered away from the cpu directly to the heatsink.

If thermal paste is not applied you may damage your cpu, as it will over heat.

    Just remember...

At all times keep one of your hands on the metal case of the computer to discharge static. Or just every 30 seconds touch the case

Make sure to apply thermal paste.

DON'T TOUCH THE PINS.Procedure for changing a cpu?LOL talk about old wow.

Here is a video on how to put paste on your CPU:

    i hope this helps.

Hi , how hard is it to change my cpu? and is it worth changing from 2.8 ghz to 3.4 ghz, pc is a desktop . ta?

Depending on your acquaintance with computer hardware, changing your CPU will be moderately difficult to tough. What you have to do is to take your heatsink and fan out, remove your old chip, reapply the heat compound on the base of the heatsink and insert the new new chip and replace the fan correctly. Involves some turning screws, maneuvering components inside the case and reading CPU installation manuals. If you are really ignorant, you can actually damage the chip by improper insertion.

And speaking about the worthiness, an increase from 1.8 to 3.4 will definietely count. Though you will not notice any significant performance boost when doing ordinary Windows tasks, it will count when playing games and stuff. The important thing to consider here is the compatibility of the new chip to your old motherboard. I am positive that it would work out fine.Hi , how hard is it to change my cpu? and is it worth changing from 2.8 ghz to 3.4 ghz, pc is a desktop . ta?Depends on many things, such as the motherboard. How old is the comp?Hi , how hard is it to change my cpu? and is it worth changing from 2.8 ghz to 3.4 ghz, pc is a desktop . ta?Yes, it would be worth it.

They're very easy to change if you know what you are doing. In other words, are you comfortable rooting around under the hood?

Don't forget to stay grounded. Make absolutely sure the heat sink is back on before you turn it on. It can fry a CPU in less than a second.

Edit: Bob down there has an excellent point. More memory is always a good idea for speeding up a computer.Hi , how hard is it to change my cpu? and is it worth changing from 2.8 ghz to 3.4 ghz, pc is a desktop . ta?The 3.4 would be about 18% faster but I doubt that you would ever notice the difference.Hi , how hard is it to change my cpu? and is it worth changing from 2.8 ghz to 3.4 ghz, pc is a desktop . ta?I don't think you would notice much changing the CPU, but if you are able to add extra RAM, that would make a differenceHi , how hard is it to change my cpu? and is it worth changing from 2.8 ghz to 3.4 ghz, pc is a desktop . ta?It's good if u can change. But it will cost u a lot. but it's worth while.Hi , how hard is it to change my cpu? and is it worth changing from 2.8 ghz to 3.4 ghz, pc is a desktop . ta?if your a heavy gaming yes if not than no.Hi , how hard is it to change my cpu? and is it worth changing from 2.8 ghz to 3.4 ghz, pc is a desktop . ta?Will, I recently opened up a computer for the first time and I was surprised at where the Processor was. I had to remove a lot of components before I got to the mother board. It might be intimating at first to see all the computer parts but when you get to work, it isn檛 hard at all. Most of the parts are secured by screws and clips so removing them were easy. Just to make sure you remember where everything goes. You should try to search for some picture instructions because that would really help.

What kind of processor are you looking to upgrading to? If it檚 an older Pentium D I say don檛 even bother but if you檙e upgrading to the newer core 2 duo, go for it!

How to Change my CPU Speed?

Hi, i have brought a intel pentium 4, 3ghz processor and ive used a program called Sandra witch tells me about my hardware and stuff.

anyway, it tells me that the...

    Model - Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3GHz

    Speed - 1.5Ghz

and then threes afew other things....then

    Maximum Speed - 3GHz 4x 200MHz (800MHz).

so i was wondering how i can set the speed to 3GHz

i don't think that is overlocking the processor tho...bcuz the maxium speed is 3ghz, you know what i mean? =D

Anyway. below that is says Co-prosseser (FPU)

and the speed says 1.5 GHz.

anywho, dont say to overclock it in the bios b4 its a dell and it impossible to do it to this computer :-(, unless theres some hidden blanked out botton i can press or somthing to hack into it lol.

anyway, thanks is advance =DHow to Change my CPU Speed?Lol, P4 3GHz @ 15 HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA, i think you mean P4 3GHz W/ HT. yes, it eans that it is running at 3.0GHz, its just saying the speed per core. and since no P4's are multicored, it just splits up the total, so 1.5GHz per task, or 3.0GHz on 1 Task. :DHow to Change my CPU Speed?Your P4 may be using Speedstep. It cuts the cpu speed when it is not needed. It works very fast and you probably won't get any performance increas by disabling it.

    Ensure Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology is enabled in your BIOS. For Intel desktop boards, the Intel SpeedStep Technology option is under the %26quot;Power%26quot; tab and labeled %26quot;EIST.%26quot; Ensure it is set to %26quot;Enabled.%26quot;

(So set EIST to disabled to turn Speedstep off)

If you go into the Power Applet in Control Panel and select the Always On option it will disable Speed Step. Right click your desktop %26gt; Click properties %26gt; Click Screen Saver %26gt; Power button %26gt; Change the Power Scheme to always on.

    FPU

That is the integrated math coprocessor. It's not your CPU speed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CoprocessorHow to Change my CPU Speed? This is perfectly normal and there is nothing to fix. Your CPU's top speed is 3GHz, but it does not run at 3GHz when there is nothing for it to do. This would waste power, reduce the CPU's life, and increase the chance that it would need to throttle to avoid overheating.

How do I change my CPU usage?

I get a 100% CPU usage only when I play Everquest2 and The Sims2. And as soon as it hits the 100% mark, my game freezes and terminates. I have already updated my RAM from 512 to 1.512. I have cleaned my registry, defraged, disk cleanup. I shut down all the startup processes that I don't use and don't need. What else can I do to make the 100% go down? I have 2.20 GHz and a ATI Radeon 9550/X1050 Series. I have also already done all of my windows updates. How do I change my CPU usage?it sounds to me like you got some spyware running cause EQ2 shouldn't be using 100%. get spybot S%26amp;D and threatfire and run them and see if they turn up any malwareHow do I change my CPU usage? Not just startup processes man... It's also the programs that run concurrent.

You may also want to upgrade your drivers. I don't fancy ATI... they're cheaper and you kind of get what you pay for is a statement i've always believed. I would go with Nvidia next time around. Nvidia 9800GTX so far in my book has a great rating.

I built an Intel/EVGA/Nvidia gaming computer for a customer and it works GREAT! It runs very smooth with any game.. FEAR doesn't lag one bit! 300$ graphics card. I have a friend with an 8800GT and it lags a little with Fear. This... not a problem. With the motherboard... it still has 2 PCI-E slots to expand with 2 More graphics cards or 1 More graphics card and an Ageia PhysX Physics Accelerator card. So it's a 2-way SLI with an Ageia PhysX card. That will run intensively smooth. Probably won't see lag for 5-10 years unless you manage to let your computer to get screwed up!

The machine I built for the customer contains this.

    :SPECS:

    Case w/ 2 120MM fans front %26amp; back.

    XP Home

    EVGA 780i A1 Motherboard - 1066/1333Mhz FSB and allows 800Mhz DDR2 Ram Or upto 1200MHz Ram w/ EPP

    Intel Core2 Quad Q6700 - 2.66Ghz

    2GB Ram - 800MHz OCZ SLI-Ready Memory

    9800GTX 512MB DDR3

    700 Ultra Power Supply

    2 x 500GB 7200 HDDJBOD

    2 DVD/CD RW w/ Lightscribe

Ultra Chilltec ThermoElectric cooler - Peltier cooling system.

    Est. Cost 1400$

This CPU actually gets COLDER the harder the system runs as far as I've seen. Runs average 66C and dropped down to 50C on me while playing a game. Great system. How do I change my CPU usage? It sounds like your computer gets unstable under high load.. It could be the result of overheating or faulty memory. You need some kind of stress test with temperature monitoring to find out what's wrong. I personally like S%26amp;M test, the others well-known ones are prime95 and memtest

How exactly do I change my CPU?

I will soon be changing my CPU form AMD athlon64 4200+ to a 5200+ and I've already taken apart other PCs and put them back together so I know how the changing works I will be adding a heatsink to my CPU instead of the one that comes with the processor. Now what I want to know is, is there anything I should do before changing it and after. I mean in the software. Should I remove any programs because I think that the ones I have are not only for 4200+...I have only software form the AMD website. Should I mess with the bios?? My current CPU is overclocked. Should I restore the stock clock before removing it. (the new processor will also be overclocked).

    Thanks.

I want to open my sony SZ370 laptop to change the CPU fan. what do I do?

Hello, I bought this sony a 1.5 year ago and it's cpu fan has become very noisy lately. I want to change it but I know I don't have warranty anymore so It will cost Also to give it to sony and it takes about 2 weeks (that's what I've heard).

I am an engineer (not computer though) and I can open a machine and put it back together but this thing seemingly has been designed to prevent the user from opening. Do you know of a guide for opening this thing? I've removed the keyboard and all the other parts but I can't get to the fan. I don't know how to open it.

Also if you know a store around lisbon, portugal that is good with fixing laptops please let me know.I want to open my sony SZ370 laptop to change the CPU fan. what do I do?Since you took keyboard off you are almost there it looks like. Make sure to remove all the screws from the bottom and then there are a few screws under the keyboard on the top case assembly I think from the pictures I saw and then it should pop off. So, after removing all screws from back and taking keybaord off and removing the top case(with touchpad) the sub frame should pop off. You will probably have to pry it apart and then you can get to the fan. Good luck. This is what I'm thinking i have not taken apart a sony before. Good luck.

Memory card reader:multi-in-one digital media managerHow to change my video card and cpu on fallout3?What you need is a new power supply and video card if you want to run this at high settings and still get good fps. A good PSU will cost you about $80, and a good enough graphics card to run this game at high settings will cost about $200. Go with Nvidia graphics brands to look for are, BFG tech, Evga, Pny, or XFX. You will be happy with the GTX 260.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asHow to change my video card and cpu on fallout3?I would say to go for a 9600 GT. Although it is tough to find a good price for this.

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/

You'll get an average of around 60ish fps depending on your resolution with all settings Maxed.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5do2faZz

Or in that price range, try a HD4670

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as

Also note that this game is playable at 30fps. This is not a %26quot;twitchy%26quot; FPS, so smooth fps is not required to play.

If you feel like you want a bit more power, go for the 9800 GT

    or the HD4770

Your CPU is powerful enough as it is. Changing it won't see a very large increase in performance, however if you DO wish to change it, here's a few vids for ya:

Can I change my CPU to a faster one?

And how do I do it?

And whit one do I need? Can I change my Desktop Celeron CPU?sure can... but i think a ram upgrade would give you better results if you want to speed up your system. and cheaper.

    see: http://www.crucial.com/

but if you are dead set on it the max you can go is 3.60GHz with the %26quot;365%26quot;. all you would need is some thermal paste (such as artic silver 5), nail polish remover and a small screw driverCan I change my Desktop Celeron CPU?You might be able to upgrade to a faster CPU, (desktop or laptop) but it depends on the motherboard and if it's a few years old it probably won't be able to handle modern CPUs like the Core 2 Duo line. (You might be able to upgrade to a faster Celeron, a Pentium 4, or maybe even a Pentium D.) Anything higher may require a more extensive upgrade, (say motherboard, RAM, possibly power supply, possibly the case) and would only be possible on a Desktop. (That kind of upgrade on a laptop is called buying a new one.)

In any event, info on the motherboard itself (and whether this is a desktop or a laptop) would be required to tell you what your upgrade limits are.Can I change my Desktop Celeron CPU?For starters, go to the web site listed below and download the Upgrade Configurator you will see on the main page.

This program will generate a report telling you what hardware you have in your machine, as well as list options for upgrades to most of the major components, if they exist.

It is a great reference for your decisions. They will also offer to sell you upgrades that are guaranteed compatible. This is not always the best site to buy from, as they can be rather high priced. But at least you can take the info and then shop on eBay to see if the price is reasonable. Can I change my Desktop Celeron CPU?yes you can

http://support.gateway.com/s/Manuals/DesCan I change my Desktop Celeron CPU?sure you can. just open up your case, unplug and remove CPu fan. change CPU, replace CPU fan, plug it in and your done. Can I change my Desktop Celeron CPU?You need to tell us what motherboard you have.

  • How do i change my CPU?

im kinda clueless on how to do this. The only reason i want to do this is to make my PC faster, do i have to change my mother board? (ASRock7800GXE/128m am3cpu ready), whatever that means.. phenom x4 quadcore. it clocks in at 2.29GHz. I would like for it to be 3Ghz or more. I use vista-64-bit if that makes a difference in anyway.

So basicaly i need to know if it is a simple instalation, meaning all i need to do is get the new CPU's (4) and install them. nothing needs to be removed other than the current cpu's. And nothing will be deleted.

please give me some suggestions after reading my system specs or watching a video of my pc i made wich will give more detaild Specs. thanks

    AMD Phenom Q9600 quad core @ 2.29GHZ

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PODhBrd3DMYHow do i change my CPU?we didn't need your computer specs... well anyway. that asus mobo seems to be a custom one. somehow. so you could just overclock your proc. no need to buy a new one.

and yes, to your actual question, take out, put in new cpu, BUT YOU MUST APPLY THERMAL GREASE. arctic silver is a good kind.

and get the new CPU singular form. you can only put 1 cpu on that mobo. it's just that that cpu is divided into 4 smaller independently processing units.

How do I change the CPU multiplier?

OK, I have a HP Pavillion ZV5000 laptop. I used Nvidia's Ntune to overclock it. But it hung or something and I manually restarted it (held in the power button till it turned off) and it changed the CPU multiplier to 8X. Now, it runs the processor twice as fast, and my fans can't keep up. So, how can I change the multiplier back to 7X? Ntune says to use your BIOS or whatever to do it, but mine has no options for that. Is there a utility that can do this? How do I change the CPU multiplier? If your BIOS doesn't have Overclocking features then it won't have PCI locks, this means that any extra voltage or speed applied to the CPU will also increase the speed and voltage of any cards in PCI or PCI-Express ports.

Overclocking a card in this manner is not good for it.

If the mobo's BIOS doesn't have voltage and frequency settings then using nTune or any software based overclocking utility could cause irreparable damage to components.

If you get a mobo that has PCI locks only use BIOS settings to overclock, no software like nTune is as good as a decent BIOS like aBit's uGuru.

    Edit:

    Laptop!

Do Not OC a laptop's CPU.

If it has a good fan and housing then oc the graphics, but not the CPU, no laptop is safe to overclock CPUHow do I change the CPU multiplier?there is a palce in in bios.....

You can choose any motherboard that will fit inside the case.

This is typically a so-so at best kind of situation.

Better idea would be to build a system from scratch using the best quality of hardware that you can afford. Save and use the DVD burner, the RAM, and the existing Hard Drive for the new system if those parts are performing well enough to suite you.

A lot of people that build their own systems think of the case as just a box to stick their stuff in.

    Cases:

    Protect your delicate parts.

Provide adequate cooling if properly designed.

Provide a physical representation of what you build.

And if they look good too, that's a bonus.

Don't spend $1,000 on other computer parts and buy a $59 case or use that old case from your existing system. You'll regret it.

case size - will it physically take the motherboard

ram type - is it ddr or ddr2

graphics - agp or pci express

warning many hp / compaq psu wil nly work with hp mtherboardsI want to change my motherboard %26amp; cpu.How can i find out whats compatible to my pc?You can poretty much use any motherboard and cpu as long as it will physically fit and your power supply can outout enough wattage. The problem is that most Dell, HP, Gateway....etc PCs use a BTX style motherboard and case and most aftermarket motherboards are ATX. So they usually dont fit since ATX and BTX are differant sizes and shapes. Also you need to make sure the memory will work on the new motherboard. Its usually not wrth it to relace the motherboard and cpu in these kind of PCs. This is one of the benefit of building your own system, you have much more flexibility when it comes to upgrading

How can I increase my CPU speed on a Dell Inspiron 1520 after receiving ac adapter error?

I recently received the notorious %26quot;ac adapter type cannot be determined%26quot; error. You can change a cpu, but the socket is determined by your motherboard, so you can't change the socket as easily. How do I change the CPU-Socket in order to make the Comp. faster?buy a faster cpu that support your motherboardHow do I change the CPU-Socket in order to make the Comp. faster?Change the CPU socket or just the CPU chip? The socket is press fitted and/or soldered in to the board. It would be very hard to replace it since you probably don't have a 12 ton press. You would also need the schematics for the PCB itself to know what the pinout for the socket would be. I seriously doubt you would find schematics for the circuitry of the PCB.

If it's just the CPU chip itself, read the user manual that came with your motherboard to see what the maximum it can take is. What kind of motherboard/CPU do you have?

Why my cpu wont start after changing cpu?

    i bought a new motherboard Gigabyte ga-ep43-us3l

i have my core2duo e4400 installed in it............my friend has core2duo e7300 and he wants to sell it to me....so i tried install his e7300 in my new motherboard to see if it works before i pay him.....but after installing the core2duo e7300 my pc just automatically turn offs i dont know why...i checked the cpu support list of my new motherboard here:

    http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/CPUSupport_Model.aspx?ProductID=2994%26amp;ver=#anchor_os

and e7300 was listed in the compatible cpu list...but how does that happen? does it mean my motherboard was defected?

well i changed my old cpu back (e4400) and my pc works fine......i really plan to also upgrade my cpu so anyone here knows the problem??Why my cpu wont start after changing cpu?i guess it's an obsolete BIOS version (it's missing the e7300 cpu ID). depending on how long you have your e4400 cpu keep in mind that the e7300 cpu is newer.

launch date of the e4400 was Q2 2007, whilst the launch date of the e7300 was Q3 2008. should you have bought your computer with the e4400 cpu prior Q3'08 you have to update the BIOS. even if you have bought it in early or mid 2009 it is possible that it still has an obsolete BIOS version. an updated BIOS can be found either on the homepage of the manufacturer of the PC or on the Gigabyte homepage. Why my cpu wont start after changing cpu?1. The CPU is defective

    2. You broke the CPU when you installed it.

    3. The bios is not detecting the CPU correctly. Go into bios and change the settings e.g. multiplier, bus speed, voltage settings to settings of new CPU.Why my cpu wont start after changing cpu?did u put enough (or too much) heat sync compound on the cpu? the motherboard has a built in thing that will keep the computer from starting so the cpu doesn't overheat and explode.

I would also check to make sure you didn't get a defective cpu. it doesn't happen often but it is a possibility.

that's all I can think of.
